Anyone who s celebrating what's happening in #Afghanistan is bereft of a sense of history and perspective. This region needs to breathe and till the time Afghanistan remains in turmoil, the region will never be free to proposer or progress. 1/n

One of the worst mistakes we all made was concentrate more on what others were doing wrong and less on what we could do right. That time is over.
Now the only hope is the talks between what is left of the Afghan govt and the Taliban apparently happening tomorrow in #Doha - 2/n

had this process happened in earnest many months and years before we would ve probably never reached today's scenario. 3/n

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and especially the young girls and women of Afghanistan- one cannot even imagine what they must be going through-their fear is not unfounded. Their fear is based on historical realities. 4/n

Whether for the sake of intl acceptability/recognition or for fear of God, we can only hope that better sense will prevail & whatever dispensation-transitional or permanent that comes will be inclusive and honour the freedom, equality and respect that Islam gives to women 5/n

May out of this mayhem come a truly unique opportunity for Afghanistan to become a land of peace. 6/n
