Dear #TradeUnion movement, New data from Israel shows Pfizer Vax protection may not last so won't prevent a future wave. We urgently need govts to change labour laws to empower symptomatic staff (prior to testing) to protect others by staying off work without loss of pay or job
That doesn't mean a new lockdown, but empowering staff to make wise choices despite having poor job security or zero hour contracts. That may mean employers need support for the costs. Treating people like adults not idiots :-) #FreedomToCare
That such ideas weren't pushed a year ago is an indictment of how disconnected the middle class Left is from the people who have long commutes on public transport to insecure jobs. But the Left has a 2nd chance to wake up & save lives if this virus will hit again this winter
That we have been sucked into culture wars over vaccines rather than be imaginative about effective responses to the latest data shows how rubbish our media, pundits & politicians are, & how many of us want to be righteous more than learn together. Especially when tweeting 😂🙏🏽
I got infected with Covid by a sick worker. Did you?
She couldn't stay off work as she would have lost income. In the past year I've told many managers to let their sick staff go home & not penalise them. Two agreed. But how many infections happened during their commute?
Let's see some gumption from the Left to help save lives this winter. Solidarity means helping workers make choices on health
In many countries u need a doctor's letter within 48 hrs or risk losing yr job. That's a barrier. Then if u are on contracts where u are paid for hours u work? Or no contact? Then u lose income if off work. That must change! Workers self-certify @ home, no penalty #FreedomToCare
Mar 2020 a friend on short term contract was told by her #CareHome boss not to wear her personal PPE as it scared staff & residents. They would go to work sick. Insecure work means stupid bosses & people die. While middle classes argue ideas on vaccines & who is more ethical.

Crikey...
Time for a shift in strategy for the Autumn, to better protect the vulnerable & empower staff so when they're symptomatic (prior to testing) they protect others by staying away from work/crowds/enclosed spaces. Imagining vaccines are the answer may be a distraction
Although AZ, sinovac and sinopharm might not have as poor performance against new variants as does Pfizer. I'd like to see new info on that (not from the company initial effectiveness studies, but on current effectiveness against variants).
Comments on this graph focus on vax v unvax but that was not the point of the tweeter nor me. The point is that smarter policies to protect the vulnerable and reduce spread look like they will be required, as at least the Pfizer vaccines don't look like preventing a future wave.
Framing 1: that the environmental crisis is about our children's future. Yes, it is. But the implicit message of focusing on that is that the environmental crisis is not about people's damaged and disrupted present.
Framing 2: that there is time to fix the environment rather than us already being in a situation of disaster management, where there is a lot to do urgently, but which won't fix the situation - just give us more of a chance to be reducing potential impacts.
