How I increased my income by $500 / month

When I first started on Amazon, I bought a course by @MediaBoca that taught me how to sell used media on Amazon.

Most interesting to me was the books.

But I did not like going into most thriftstores / Goodwills because it was either junk or over priced.
So I started looking on Facebook Marketplace.

Many people would sell a box of random books for $5-10.

I started buying them and soon found that I could, on average, make a pretty nice profit when I hit books worth $50-60.

This happens way more often than you think.
Well, a few of those people I contacted were trying to get rid of books for free.

They liquidated estate sales looking for rare and valuable antiques.

They had zero interest in books and it was the biggest pain for them to move and dispose of.
This is what I like to call "the start of a beautiful friendship."

Their pain was my prize.

I told them if they contacted me when they had books, I would haul all of them away for free,
They started asking me to come clear estate sales with 100s and 100s of books.

I would take boxes and load them in my minivan.

Once I unloaded at home, I got an Eyoyo scanner and scanned books with an app called "Scout IQ."
A lot of the books end up being junk, but about 10% are winners.

Out of 500 books, I average about $300-500 in profit for Amazon, and it takes about 6 hours of work.

Often times, there are many books that are not scannable - no ISBN, no Barcode, no Amazon listing.
This is where it gets tedious, and also very rewarding.

I research, or pay my sister to research, old and antique books that cannot be sold on Amazon.

Over time, this has paid off very well (examples below).
I don't have time to do this as actively as I once did.

However, the fact that I did it for so long allowed me to build a nice library of around 100 books that still sell from week to week.

If you are just starting out as a flipper, do the following:
Go to local missions (not Goodwill) and scan books.

Tell them you are a reseller who buys books, and ask if they have any books in the back (I have made $1000s this way)

They will bring out books that have not been picked through yet.
Keep an eye out for:

-Textbooks
-First editions
-Complete sets
-Horror / unique cover designs
-Obscure looking books / niche religious books
Contact estate sale companies in your area and tell them you haul away books for free.

If they decline, you could also say you will haul them away for 10% of the estate sale price.

Not everyone will be a winner, but if you do this enough, you will average a good profit.
Consider hiring a neighborhood kid or family member to help you do research and clean up books.

It is not easy work - it pays to have help.
If the supply in your area is abundant enough, you can make a good living just selling used books or creating used book bundles.

Here are some examples of books that I have sold:

Stewardship

Never complain, never explain.

Your friends don’t care and your enemies won’t believe you.

If you complain (about anything), you are asserting that you know better than God, and that whatever He has given to you is not right for you.
Finances

You can’t take it with you.

Live on little, save some, give most.

A question I am asked often: how do you find collectibles and limited items?

There are lots of different ways - this is my favorite.
I get a little distracted, and if you do too, that is great news!

Getting distracted and following your curiosity is one of the best ways to find profitable items.

How to find Wholesale Suppliers

(the easy way)

/thread
Amazon is getting stricter with sellers.

Lose a shipment?

They won't take a receipt, they need an invoice.

Retail / Online Arbitrage is a great way to start and to make a good living

BUT

You should hedge your business with multiple sources of business income.
Wholesale is a great option - here's why:

-Lower prices
-Higher barrier of entry
-Larger product selection
-Get ungated in anything they carry
-Lower margins but higher volume/ availability

They don't feel like donating it or selling it, they would rather you come and pick it up.

How I walk into a retail store and walk out with $500 in profit

Over and over and over

First things first:

You have a unique way of looking at things.

You can find things few others can.

This is your advantage.

Exploit it!
Attitude is important.

You need to be humble.

You don't know 1% of anything. If you think you know it all, you will never find profitable items.

Your biggest enemy is yourself.

Come to terms with this.
