Santiago Mayer: This war has been going on for two months longer than I've been alive. We should have helped the people who helped us before we left. We should have left after we killed Osama bin Laden.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: You really cannot help support a gov't that won't support itself.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: I've listened today to so many Repubs who say they're concerned about Afghan lives. If that's true, then let's bring them here. The xenophobia that plagues every decision made about the Middle East is staggering.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: This was a war fought by a generation that largely wasn't able to vote on it. Limiting the vote really affects young voters & voters of color.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: It's not only gerrymandering, it's efforts to limit younger people registering to vote, it's trying to limit voters of color.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: Trying to get elected with fascist ideals while also denying what they said just months ago is pathetic. The Republican party should keep getting their asses beat in elections.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: Lauren Boebert & Marjorie Taylor Greene say the most controversial things they can think of; they try to get donations by being controversial.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer:The people who are dying probably weren't even born when the conflict began. We achieved nothing. The gov't collapsed the second we left. This goes back to a legacy of failed policy for many administrations.
Rick: Biden inherited this
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: We try to educate young people, incl those who aren't old enough to vote yet, on topics like civics. There isn't a young person lobby so we're trying to make sure young people's voices are heard.
@santiagomayer @VotersTomorrow
Santiago Mayer: We're going to be here the longest & want to make sure we have a seat at the table. Decisions are being made by people who are significantly older than we are & who might not even still be around to see the results of their decisions

Bob Ney: I thought Kabul would fall but I did not think it would fall within 9 days. Well, the provinces. I think everyone was just avoiding altercations with the Taliban period.
@bobney
Bob Ney: They were actually helping at the airport, not working with us, in order to get people out of there. Not because they're good guys but because they want us out of there.
@bobney
Bob Ney: Internally, like usual in the Middle East, we don't have a handle on what's going on in the country, even while we're there. And this goes back to 1978.

Rich Ojeda: There is no education in Afghanistan. Most every town I went to was a tent & the smartest kid was the teacher--and he was 12.

Rich Ojeda: I've got an interpreter whose wife & child are in that crowd; I've been writing letters for 11+ years to get them here & every time it's been denied.

Rich Ojeda: Right now? I feel like I'm numb. We were brought on to believe that we were doing all these great things over there, equipping & training their military.

Max Burns: This is a conflict that over 20 years has had hundreds of mothers & fathers in Congress, that has had political will on the Afghan side. I remember protesting this war as a child.

Max Burns: Once we figure out how to prevent such a war again in the future, then we can worry about who gets points & demerits.

Max Burns: The repercussions now will play out for decades; we'll see the destabilization effect & the refugee effect for decades.

@SteveHofstetter
Steve Hofstetter: There are definitely people who've simply forgotten how to interact with society. I get it; it's been a tough mental health year for all of us. I don't know what to say to the people who unload on me after shows, recapping their last 18 mos.
@SteveHofstetter
Steve Hofstetter: The people who are demanding that everything reopen are now mad at how things are reopening. They just want to be mad, no matter what happens.

Caller Kurt from AZ: The infrastructure bill got passed, but it's frustrating to me how the Senate works. You have to pay attn to what happens AFTER they pass a bill. After infrastructure, the Repubs blocked Dems from debating voting rights.
#RickShow @WBAI
Caller Kurt: We have 6 referendums in 2022, & 3 of them are about voter suppression. We have to turn them in by Sept, so there's not a lot of time for organizing. It was critical when the Senate voted that night but they blocked voting rights.
#RickShow @WBAI
Rick: Yes.. The GOP has already tipped their hand by saying they're going to impeach Pres. Biden for no reason. GOP knows their policies won't draw people in, so they need to suppress votes. If they've rigged the game before the 1st vote is cast, we have problems

Tim Driscoll: Rich Trumka's legacy is long & deep; the best way we can pay tribute to that is by moving forward on the PRO Act & the infrastructure bills.
@Tdriscollbac @IUBAC #infrastructure
Tim Driscoll: The $1.2 infrastructure bill was a great down payment. Roads, bridges, water, broadband, ports. These roads are to get us somewhere, like work, school, etc., so we need a lot of broad investment.
@Tdriscollbac @IUBAC #infrastructure
Tim Driscoll: When we put people to work, they put that money right back in the economy by spending it.
