#FOOTHILLS #SHOOTING: @ABQPoliceChief Medina says 2 officers shot, frustrated with 4 incidents in the last few weeks that have targeted law enforcement. Says he needs all parts of the criminal justice system working together to address ABQ's violent crime. @KOB4

Medina: "As a community we have to draw a line in the sand. We can't think we can assist every individual. There are some people who should stay in jail, and we can't be afraid to say that."

Medina: 1 officer in critical condition; 1 officer just went through surgery; 2 other officers sustained injuries but no idea of what long term consequences they could be dealing with

1 in custody - all indications only shooter - other individuals being detained

Medina: 1 suspect in custody, believes he is the only shooter involved. They have other people detained and are investigating their involvement.

.@MayorKeller: we know 3 officers are stable but one is in critical condition and he is top of mind, receiving top care from officials at @UNMHSC. Says he knows our community is going through a tragedy.

Keller: our community is in this together, no matter what the causes, problems or what the answers are. Now is when our community must come together to support our community and @ABQPOLICE

Keller asking for support for the families of the officers involved. Working on providing counseling for officers, particularly those in the Foothills Area Command. Thankful for outside agencies stepping in to help with unrelated calls in metro.

Keller: "we will be relentless in our pursuit of justice and we want to put together the strongest possible case. We are prepared to take this to the state or federal level."

@ABQPOLICE officer shot at base of neck above bulletproof vest, immediately taken to surgery, still in critical condition

2nd officer shot in chest but protected by bulletproof vest

3rd officer shot in forearm and brought to surgery, stable right now

4th officer had shrapnel to his eye, stable as well

1 suspect involved is in stable condition at hospital

.@UNMHSC Dr. Steve McLaughlin: says he and colleagues are dealing with gun violence epidemic in the metro, references the 13 year old shot and killed at Washington Middle School. Says he's lived in metro for a while and believes it has gotten more dangerous overtime.

Dr. McLaughlin: as he was getting ready for this briefing he got a page another gunshot victim is heading to the hospital - unrelated to Foothills shooting today

.@ABQPOLICE Spokesman Gilbert Gallegos says act of heroism today with APD Service Aide who rendered aid to officer shot in arm, put on tourniquet that saved his life

Medina: says he and DA recognize weaknesses in our state criminal justice system and will do what they can to take it federal
