The role of your Bio in converting Visitors to Followers, or better yet, to FRIENDS.
A THREAD
I came to Twitter to write more, but with #hypefurychallenge, I've learned a LOT about tweaking my profile for growth (and I've grown so much). Here I am writing about Twitter growth.🤷🏻♀️
There are a few ways Visitors land on your profile. ⬇⬇
1️⃣ Via Tweet
I see your tweet, it resonates with me so much that I'm curious about you.
On your profile, your banner will be the first thing I see. It should pop off the screen and fall into my eye. Figuratively, of course.
Here's the banner that inspired this whole thread.
What's so good about it?
- High contrast image, catches your eye
- Powerful words
- Makes a promise
- Hits your pain points
- That's all I need to know about him!
And if I care about that (which I do) I'll never leave without following 👇🏻
If your Bio has nothing to do with the tweet that earned you a visitor, they may or may not be disappointed.
Let's assume the worst, and try not to tweet about anything out of the box.

2️⃣Visitor via Comment/Reply
I see you say something COOL under my favorite tweeter's post.
I'm intrigued, I look at your Bio.
Oh, you talk about mutual funds? I loved your take on Keto diet, I'm curious to see what you say about investments. Let me follow you real quick. 🤷🏻♀️
You CAN discuss, engage with, and rant about all sorts of stuff IN COMMENTS.
Just don't do that in YOUR content. Your content is your promise. Don't stray from it.
I am yet to make my mind about Retweeting out-of-niche stuff. So help me out & comment what you think.
3️⃣Via Engagement
If I visit your profile via a positive interaction, it is your Bio's responsibility to
- highlight your promise
- make you look approachable
- show what you have FOR ME
- clearly tell who you are & what you tweet about
This is something I call a Dynamic Bio 👇🏻
Dynamic Bio = I am learning so my content won't be stagnant + I already know some shit which you should grab
Or
I have much to learn (from you) + I have much to offer you
Either way, I'm showing you value in connecting with me.
4️⃣Via Recommended - This is the worst
I've unfollowed Topics entirely because of how bad the recommendations are. I see tweets like "Funny how using the word Startup will get you featured in Startup Topic" & never saw a valuable tweet, nor a cool account on startups. Canceled.❌
But JUST in case your featured tweet or an RT by a mutual earns you a visitor (I call it a visitor magnet), the same rule as #1 applies.
And if that fateful Tweet is a huge contrast (or just not related) to what you promised in the Bio?
Here's what it will essentially mean.
✅ Your tweets are attractive. But not effective.
That's the worst.
You have the knack for spiking curiosity in a reader, but talking about the wrong thing is costing you a lot of potential followers.
Visitors not following?
You must either fix your Bio to cover a broader range of topics.
Or
Stick to your guns when writing. Don't mess around.
What sticking to your guns will do-
✅Your knowledge, clarity, and writing skills will be more refined
✅When you've run out of things to talk about in your niche, magic is about to happen. Pick up a book/podcast, talk to a fellow creator, or a big name in your niche AND SHARE
✅You will meet people who care about the same things as you.
- They are people you relate with, can learn from, repurpose each other's content, exchange ideas, and collaborate with. The sky is the limit.
- Grab them with both hands. This is your tribe.
That's the role of your Bio in building connections and making friends with like-minded people.
But if you talk about anything and everything, good luck with finding your tribe.
Plus
If your Bio isn't clear and promising, say farewell to visitors. They're not coming back. Bye!
You can bet your hat I changed my Bio before posting this.
Thank you for reading!
And check out my Bio to give me some constructive criticism. I might be getting cocky.😂
• Your writing gets clearer
• Deeper coverage Vs wider
• To give more value, you learn more
• You build an image
• You attract like-minded creators– Your Tribe
• The more you talk about it, the more trust you build
🎯 Your Bio is your Cover Letter.

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
This came up in a conversation with Arthur (@DevLinguistic) about a line in his thread on building habits that was too good to be hiding inside a thread.
Here's what to do when you find that gem.
1. Cover a wider and more general scope
- Break down and parse your original content to get a broader view.
- "How to write consistently" is specific.
- Break it down into two broader topics
- How to write consistently = How to write + How to be consistent.
Here's a quick thread on my experience. There may be some tips in there 👀
⬇️
Time difference - I'm ahead in time, & living in the future so I had more time for tasks + checking the hashtag and engaging.
Planning ahead - After finishing with my Bio, I was brainstorming what story to tell and I came up with ideas for a bunch of threads.
I wrote 3 threads in 2 hours that morning. I was confused about which one to post.
Then I saw @nathanarodgers' humongous goldmine of a thread and decided to merge all 3 of my threads, discard the bullshit & do one big thread. I edited out A LOT & ended up with 22 tweets in it.
