Watching #vivonetflix as a Cuban American and I have so many questions!
I love the music and the animation. I love the recognizable Malecón and the Capitolio Nacional…but I want more!
Andrés & María are in their prime when they part pre-Castro (Jan 1, 1959), so if it the plot happens in modern day, they will be around 80, and she just ignores him for 60 years??
How did this poor man’s relatives learn of his death & make it to Havana so quickly? The events of the movie happen w/in a week, & they have to identify his relatives, contact them…they have to get visas and book travel… I know I need to suspend disbelief but it’s a lot for me
I wish travel between Cuba & Florida were that easy! But my dad is a gusano (a worm, someone who fled after the Revolution) so maybe it’s easier for others…
All in all, I like it. A lot. Currently I’m attending the daily watching of it in our home 😅 lol. My 4yo is in love. So you get my musings. 😬🥰

Thread: The limitations & fundamental problems w/ #bodypositivity rest in it's manner of dealing with POWER, in 3 fundamental ways: 1) where it places personal responsibility, 2) how it centers those already in cultural power, 3) off whom it profits #fatacceptance#fatliberation
1) PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Body positivity places the burden of its mission--being positive about bodies--on individuals. This becomes about managing emotions that affect us rather than dealing w/ the expectations and inequalities that affect our bodies & are out of our control.
Fat liberation address the underlying issues of structural injustice against non-conforming bodies AND makes room for people to express all types of emotions about their bodies and treatment thereof.
