I'm very uncomfortable seeing this type of thing. And a lot of people don't understand why.
Your care can change based on perceptions of your care team.
I didn't realize the tech was so good that they can get records if the person can't communicate.
Good to know.
Got one of those little McKoy scanners.
You can learn more on how things have gone historically for disabled people at this website @Musedisability
Pandemic has shifted the disability window to any disability, whereas before you needed to be "disabled disabled" to see it. I see that now and realize I've been lucky.
And people got guardianship for adults with disabilities in the past* because doctors would decide that the PWD quality of life was poor d/t their disability and not offer treatments, medications, and life-sustaining care. So parents and states would need to push for care.
*still
Consistently disabled people rate their quality of life on QOL scales as higher than others who rate them.
Scary.
A lot of assumptions going into extending life that shouldn't be made.

New COVID variant detected in South Africa and 7 other countries - Europe incl -most mutated variant so far
Is it worse?
The paper: The continuous evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in South Africa: a new lineage with rapid accumulation of mutations of concern and global detection
From discussion: Many of the shared mutations have been associated with improved ACE2 binding (N501Y)25–29 or furin cleavage (H655Y and P681H/R)30–32, and reduced neutralization activity (particularly Y144del, 242-244del, and E484K)17,33–39, providing sufficient cause for concern
of continued transmission of this variant. Future work aims to determine the functional impact of these mutations, which likely include neutralizing antibody escape, and to investigate whether their combination confers a replicative fitness advantage over the Delta variant.
"Our results suggest that policymakers & individuals should consider maintaining NPIs & transmission-reducing behaviours throughout *entire* vaccination period."
Results of what? Rates of SARS-CoV-2 transmission & vaccination impact fate of vax-resistant strains
Modeling study
This isn't so much about the vax we are using. It's about leadership it seems? (A few tweets⬇️)
"Specifically, a concern is whether a combination of vaccination and transmission rates can create positive selection pressure on the emergence & establishment of resistant strains"
To address this issue, we implemented a model to simulate the probability of emergence of a resistant strain as a function of vaccination rates and changes in the rate of virus transmission, resembling those caused by non-pharmaceutical interventions and behavioural changes
