In today’s episode of “what anti-abortion fuckery is going down at the #txlege?” the House is currently debating #SB4. This bill severely limits access to medication abortion, which is a standard care practice for safely terminating a pregnancy across the country and the world./1
Anti-abortion reps at the #txlege want us to believe that #SB4 is about 'safety' for patients, but we know that they love to lie, and that #SB4 is just another attempt to cruelly push abortion care out of reach for everyone in Texas, including their own constituents. /2
Medication abortion is 99% safe and effective. That’s a higher safety percentage than Tylenol. #SB4 takes away this extremely safe option and forces Texans to wait longer to get an in-clinic procedure. #txlege /3
There is no 'labor' or 'delivery' in medication abortion; there is simply oversight by the physician that provided the exam & an evidence-based, FDA-approved regimen. That will not change, with or without this bill. #txlege /4
What this bill WILL DO is restrict access from 70 days (which has been safely practiced in Texas since 2016, and nationwide and internationally for much longer) to just 49 days. For literally no health or safety reason. #txlege /5
By banning doctors from treating patients who need medication abortion after 7 weeks, #SB4 will cause more Texans to seek care outside of a clinical setting. So, the exact opposite of the bill author's stated intent. #txlege /6
If the supposed purpose of #SB4 is to increase medical oversight and prevent Texans from getting medication abortion by mail, why does the bill INCREASE the need for medication abortion by mail without a doctor’s supervision? #txlege /7
#SB4 is not about safety, but about punishing Texans who need and provide abortions. They want to limit our options, deny us access to care that other people around the world have, and restrict our freedom. We see right through you and your never-ending lies. #txlege /8
