So the province announced $8 million for EMS…

What does that boil down to?

Actually, not very much.

(A thread)

/1
The province says they’re creating 100 FTE positions.

As always, the devil is in the details.

They’re taking 30 temp positions already in the work force and extending them.

But what about the other 70?

/2
The other 70 are full time positions they’ll be filling from the casual pool.

But that’s still pretty good, right?

Well sorta?

/3
That’s 70 positions across the province.

It’s also going to be filled with people who are already working. So there will be 70 new EMT’s who get benefits, and that’s great and all, but here’s the thing…

/4
Let’s say rural(ish) Alberta gets 20 of those, and #YYC and #YEG each get 25…

Ems works on a shift schedule, rotating through 4 shifts.

So that’s ~6 people per shift.

That’s 3 trucks per shift.

Which, if they were adding trucks would still only be a small dent.

/5
But they haven’t said they’re adding trucks, they’re adding staff.

From the exhausted paramedics we’ve heard from in our DM’s, they’re happy that there are some supports coming, but here’s the thing…

/6
Here’s what was going on in #YYC last night according to @HSAAlberta.

10 rural ambulances out of their areas to do calls in Calgary.

That’s 20 EMT’s.

/7
Saturday?

Even worse.

15 rural trucks not in their areas because they were in Calgary.

That’s 30 EMT’s.

So while we’re sure that EMS are grateful for any supports they can get, it’s all just a drop in the bucket.

/8
So what can be done?

Well, there’s a group of EMT’s that have been saying for quite some time that the biggest problem is this.

When ambulances transport patients to hospitals, they aren’t allowed to transfer care immediately and they have to wait.

/9
These are called “hallway waits” from what we’re told.

And they’re the biggest thing that EMT’s have been asking to have changed.

But no one is listening.

/10
Which is understandable.

Because it’s gotta be hard for a government to hear the pleas for help with earplugs in.

We’re not journalists or astroturf.

We don’t know most of the actual journalists who cover Alberta politics, but we’re sure they’re really, really nice.

We have a Prime Minister and a premier (god help us), not a president or a governor.

We have two official languages, and we have a few folks on the team who can speak both!

And you can say it “About” or “aboot” because we believe in tolerance!

/2
Despite the efforts of extremists, the Canadian flag is not something to be embarrassed of!

We believe that policing has A LOT of work to do to build trust with people, we believe in DIVERSITY and that trans kids (all kids, to be clear) deserve to be safe from bigotry!

A short thread on Billy Makis, the “keynote” member of the all star “cast” of the UCP’s anti-vax festival…

/1 Image
Makis posted this to his own social media, where he claims to be a physician based in Edmonton and provides his registration number in response to an inquiry by CBC.

/2 Image
Except, when you go to the College of physicians and Surgeons and look him up, he’s inactive.

So…

Unifor local 4001 has come out condemning Nenshi’s 2019 letter to the UCP.

“Independent” of any campaign tho… right?

Cause that would be kinda…

Questionable, right?

Thread!

/1

#abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli Image
So the president of local 4001 is Ricky Brar. We double checked the unifor website and everything!

/2 Image
Now of course, any reasonable person would probably assume that there would be no connection to any campaign, cause that would probably look bad for both Unifor and that campaign, right?

Right…?

So about that "Contrarian" doc heading up Danielle Smith's other $2 million dollar COVID panel...

(Not the Preston Manning one)

The potential conflict goes a LOT deeper than just...

"He's contrarian"

The good doctor got himself into hot water in the early days of COVID when he made some blatantly false claims at an event caught on video that the govt was timing "lockdowns" (we never had lockdowns) for they knew admissions were dropping to make it looked like they worked.

/2 Image
The thing is...

AHS stepped up with data proving his allegations were completely fake and he was also condemned by the college of Physicians and Surgeons.

From the DM’s…

It appears the UCP have sent out an email and a survey to their membership…

On Bill 18?

Nope.

On disintegrating healthcare?

Nope.

Why it’s on the NDP Leadership race!

Question #1!

Fun with subtext!

“Look, all the NDP candidates represent a threat to your rights and freedoms, but which one is the worst! It doesn’t matter what you answer as long as you get the message!”

/2 Image
Question #2!

“Hey look, we followed up our hyperbolic subtexty question with a straightforward one, that means this survey is totally legitimate, see!”

Danielle Smith Declares War on the feds Super thread!

Live tweeting the Smith Presser!

#abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
Smith is declaring that Alberta will be prohibiting the federal government providing funding to municipalities via ne legislation.

Smith says it's because Alberta pays more in taxes than we get back from the feds and federal programs are super bad, "like Pharmacare and dental care" (actual quote)
Smith says Trudeau doesn't know what his job is...

Smith says he should get rid of the carbon tax, fund reserve services better, provide per capita funding, he should develop economic corridors, support hydrogen, address the bail system and more.

She's got a lot of grievances.
