There's no arguing a 4th wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is fully upon us. And there has been zero public conversation about it by #ableg or #yyccc. This is unacceptable. 1/ #yycvote
I believe public health is the responsibility of #ableg and without @jkenney, @shandro or @CMOH_Alberta making any public comments for weeks, the question of whether we have anyone working on the file is a legitimate one. 2/
In this information vacuum, some Calgarians are understandably worried. I would classify this as a failure of provincial leadership. 3/
#yyccc should implement COVID-19 protocols only if they declare a state of local emergency. It is this process that allows for the City to mandate themselves to take action on a public health issue that normally would be an #ableg responsibility. 4/
So how do we decide when there is a state of local emergency (and #yyccc should take action) versus when it is a public health issue (and #ableg should take action)? YOU NEED TO HOLD A MEETING AND TALK ABOUT IT. 5/
Regardless of whether you think #yyccc should implement measures I am dismayed to see that the majority of our current Council members are not even willing to have that discussion in front of their constituents. I would classify this as a failure of municipal leadership. 6/
I'm happy to see #yyccc finally got at least a committee meeting on the books for Friday, but what should happen is for #ableg to take action before then. I'm not hopeful. More details here: djkelly.ca/2021/08/we-nee… 7/7
