I don’t believe many of you understand how bad our Covid-19 situation is becoming here in the Treasure Valley. I wanted to share my experience as a family doc these past few days so you can see why I am so concerned. 🧵
Saw 3 patients yesterday with Covid. One with high risk of progression to severe disease (overweight,high blood pressure, asthma) who needs Regen-cov. Cannot schedule infusion for another 3 days due to patient demand. Very worried he will be in hospital by then😔
Multiple requests for ivermectin in past week. A lot of scared people out there. Sorry Ivermectin is NOT EFFECTIVE. Masks and the vax are VERY EFFECTIVE!
Child in my extended family just tested positive for COVID after returning to school last week. Doing well, but entire family in quarantine and awaiting swab results. Learned her daycare shutdown due to cases. How are the daycare workers going to make rent/mortgage?
Only able to find one pharmacy with rapid antigen test in Boise to test exposed family. Cashier tells me that pharmacy sold out of 200 tests within 6 hrs today.
My hope is that unvaxed bought out tests so they could attend Jonas Brothers concert in Nampa tomorrow or others hoarding. My fear is that we are in middle of tsunami
Head home and doom scrolling. Learn my state has only 4 staffed ICU beds remaining, hospital system canceling clinics and all elective surgeries for near future. Hope my breast cancer patient was able to get her surgery in time. She really needed it soon.
Learn our Governor had news conference today. Are we changing anything to mitigate spread. Sadly no. Idaho’s National Guard will be mobilized to aid hospitals. Love our military. Fear their duty will be to stack some of our friends and family in refrigerated trailers.
Decide I need a beer (I’m off call). Head to Albertsons and 10% of customers wearing masks indoors. I see 2 customers in nurse scrubs shopping. When I see their face no mask in sight. 😳
This is my toughest day out of many tough days this past 18 months. 2 months ago I felt the worst was behind us. I was wrong
This next wave will bring more tragedy than previous waves. Young dying before their time, children orphaned, non-Covid patients dying of typically treatable disease because all beds are taken. Most of these deaths were preventable.
We have dark days ahead. Your medical providers need your help in this fight. The dam is starting to crack. Your daily decisions will determine how this ends. #maskup #VaccinesWork #IdahoCovid19
