Given the scarcity that has been manufactured by Pharma, booster shots are a terrible idea…morally.
But the REAL question should be less about booster shots than about the constructed and ongoing scarcity. 2/
We and other advocates have been calling for patent waivers, tech transfer and money to fund factories to manufacture the 10 billions of doses needed.
We have been calling for that for 10 months and 10 months ago we heard “it will take too long, 6 months to a year”3/
well, if we started then, we would be manufacturing in Africa, Latin America and Asia now…and we wouldn’t be nickel and diming about boosters….this is and always will be a trap that reaps profits for Pharma and death for people around the world. 4/
We should be OUTRAGED about boosters, sure. But the battle is FOR mass production..to make the billions of doses needed for equity and to end the pandemic. 5/
This pandemic is a test…can we collaborate as a globe for a common good when it is URGENT and in our best and immediate economic interest..we are failing this test 6/
Our global system—has no teeth and no heart, and a far larger and more existential emergency is upon us…the climate crisis. If we can’t do this—25 billion USD, 2 shots for EVERYONE in whole world because it will diminish the profits of a handful of companies…7/
how can we imagine humankind has it in us to transform the extractive and polluting specter that we call growth…?

But as those non-voting 3/5 persons became voting 5/5 persons 80 years later--as a result of the Civil War, there was continued hell to pay for Black Americans. In 1871 the House was forced to pass the Klu Klux Klan Act @EJI@splcenterhistory.house.gov/Historical-Hig…
KKK act, HR 320 authorized the President to intervene in any attempt to deny “any person or any class of persons of the equal protection of the laws....” Because CLEARLY any vote by a 5/5 Black American was a stolen vote. politico.com/news/magazine/…

Many have proclaimed COVID to be the great equalizer. It is not. COVID metes harsher punishment to those with so-called pre-existing conditions. Yet, the factor most associated with a shortened life span in the United States, is zip code.
Zip code is the pre-existing condition that will lay bare the ravages of our privatized, profit-making, fragmented health “system.” Zip code will define in large measure who lives and who dies, who gets a ventilator and who does not. @ACLU_Mass
Encoded in this measure are centuries of slavery, stolen native lands, forcibly outlined reservations, plantations never divvied into 40 acres, decades of Jim Crow, red-lining, impoverished school systems, failed public housing projects, and mass incarceration. @newjimcrowdata

believes #mitigatingCOVID is NOT enough!! #flatteningthecurve is NOT enough. We cannot accept this idea that the ONLY way to stop the epidemic is through 60-80% of people getting infected so there is population-based immunity. We can STOP transmission
2/@PIH
we KNOW how to stop transmission of a severe viral illness--look at Ebola. How did the world bend the curve? We did not wait for everyone to get infected!!!!
3/ in the West African Ebola epi governments in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea w/ many civil society partners with partners around the world including @PIH @WHO @MSF @IMC_Worldwide @SamaritansPurse
and fantastic partners worked to #stoptransmission
