I often say partisanship is poison. I deeply believe that.

I also deeply believe that it is dangerous to refer to our nation as a Democracy rather than a constitutional republic.
However…I also think we need to remember to trust our principles…not our government.

That means also that some people in government will say things that I will deeply disagree with.
That doesn’t mean they may not have had something to say meant only in good faith. Or that they never said anything worthy of our principles. Quite the contrary.
Therefore…an appeal to those of you who may be inspired by the words of a man that many of you found solace in.
Right now…days before the 20th anniversary of 9/11, while our liberties have become something that can be bartered, our leadership proven to be unworthy of our confidence and our watchdogs absurdly nipping at *our* heels and even their own…
Meanwhile some of my friends are doing the unimaginable and unbelievable to be honorable and dignified and braver than I can even conceive, work quietly and quickly…
often they are in a space alone, miles apart, but with the tools our nation’s innovative and creative spirit helped to provide -they are working together, even miles apart and have resources available like no other time before ….
…and they do the incredible (really the only thing that is to be done) they are saving the lives of brothers and sisters and their families trapped by the Taliban.
Imagine the strength to simultaneously grieve those that could not be rescued and push further to save a married couple’s daughters from what some might say is worse than death.
So now…we need to imagine what we know is true but frightening during times of deep disappointment, we need to apply who we are as a nation, shake off the muck of manipulative men and women that are not meeting their oaths and offer it as simple truth.

We the people.
WE the people.
In many ways it is 20 years ago again. Many are in there, in the unimaginable, deep in the crater working to do the seemingly impossible. As before..
..no one is left behind and no one is left unaccounted. No one is treated as they are not worth it.
No one’s life is suddenly not useful enough to be valued. No gratitude is expressed insincerely. No one is treated as replaceable or discarded equipment.
No one is treated as they simply were in the wrong place at the wrong time. No one is treated as our word meant less than we swore. No excuses.
Success means how we the people are remembered, win or lose and with all imperfections (including how we remember ourselves and each other.)
We are not a people that abandon our principles; especially when powers attempt to weaken our knowledge that we are one people, indivisible independent and capable of responsibility and resolve.
I keep saying we. Our imperfect union needs us now as much as we need it.
We are not the worst of our natures anymore than we are our best. Our happiness is not guaranteed. However our capacity to pursue it is - not by any law or state or elected or unelected leader. It is guaranteed by birth. It is guaranteed by nature.
That is what being born free allows. We the people, in our grief can pursue a joint happiness not only for ourselves but for our children’s children.
They will succeed and more. We will demand accountability and we will get it and more.
“Sometimes you'll win. Sometimes you'll lose. Presuming a reservoir of goodness in other people, that can be a risk, and there will be times when the process will disappoint you…
But for those of us fortunate enough to have been a part of this work, and to see it up close, let me tell you, it can energize and inspire. And more often than not, your faith in America — and in Americans — will be confirmed…
Mine sure has been.”

-President Obama - Farewell Address January 10, 2017
BY EMILY DICKINSON
After great pain, a formal feeling comes –
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs –
The stiff Heart questions ‘was it He, that bore,’
And ‘Yesterday, or Centuries before’?
The Feet, mechanical, go round –
A Wooden way
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought –
Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone –
This is the Hour of Lead –
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing persons, recollect the Snow –
First – Chill – then Stupor – then the letting go-

The Legacy of 9/11 Dogs – American Kennel Club

I got to meet a Golden Retriever yesterday. His name is Luke. He’s 8 years old and was rescued by his owner when he was 3 months old and together they now live blocks from the site. akc.org/expert-advice/…
Theres something about Luke. He’s cautious, protective, kind, and timid. He’s a little jumpy. He stands with his four paws on the ground at the WTC in a way that makes you wonder if his hips might be troubled. His owner told me later that they are just fine. She didn’t know
about the dogs of 9/11. Shes the about the same age I was when the buildings fell. When I told her she and I both couldn’t help but look at Luke. There’s something about him. It’s like he knows and somehow he’s where he should be - it was a remarkable thing to experience.

There’s an outdoor bar at #wtc now. It plays music that fills up the nearby space around the site. The first I heard was The Piano Man as I kept walking from St. Paul’s Chapel down toward the water.
I found myself there and, despite initial reactions to the surreality, as I walked back into Manhattan I found that place is in fact…well, right. It felt right. It also allowed me the time to drink a glass of wine in memory of my friend and …of a lot.
I hit record when some songs came on both for my own keepsake and to share privately with some who were part of that time in this city when we were just starting our adult lives and horrified that so many just like us had theirs cut short- often the best amongst us.

This is an incredible editorial from @KarenLehrmanB, the publisher of @TheWhiteRoseMag. Her vision, to shine a light on the illiberal left while also urging those who don’t trust they can speak out that, not only is it right to and that they must do, but also that
they can and will find fellow voices once they do. It permeates from this piece. A theme, for me, of recent weeks has been a fear that I’m yelling into a void, and then voices telling me out right that, no that worry is not true. There are millions of us.
“There are bullies of action and there are bullies of inaction—those who enable and empower evil.” She is right. There are so many examples of such behavior I can think of both in my personal life, but also that has impacted and I’d say without apology, hurt us all.

I’ve heard Naomi Wolfe is in NYC. If anyone out there could connect us I’d be grateful. It just occurred to me that the one woman who might have compassion for those of us not falling in line and possibly causing the ladies who lunch some angst was kicked off this platform…
…what was it for exactly again? Ladies…anyone remember? Ya think one day we may whisper again “everybody knew?” Yeah. #metoo.

Any help with any contacts here in NY would be incredible. We need to make sure this doesn’t happen to the next generation.
We don’t have to make their mistake. Agreed? Cool. #metoo.

So this didn’t take long.

I’m a woman. I have a medical reason which means that if I get the vaccine I risk harm to my body. A lot. I risk pain more than natural childbirth.

But this fellow NYer’s bio says vaccinate don’t hesitate.

My body isn’t politically chic.
I can’t even get preventative care despite the rhetoric that vaccination somehow is somehow in my best interest.

I can’t go out to dinner, dating is…well…awkward. And therefore will I have the opportunity at 43 to have a family; the way I planned?
Where were these women when the fertility discussion wasn’t about abortion?

She says she’s a doctor and a mother therefore she’s sharing her thoughts.

Really.

Maybe you should talk with mine - mom to mom.
She says “we are all scared.”

Not as scared as I am, doc.

There is no way a person with his qualifications and at his age could not know at some level how insane and deceitful the tweet im reacting to was.

Either he has become a victim of mass hypnosis or…we are looking at something so malicious i can’t even process it.
Some people claim to be masters at hypnosis/Persuasion etc. If they really are they’ll know who Dr. Herbert Spiegel is and why I mention him in relationship with this tweet.

Maybe one of them will see this and … I don’t even know.

Frankly right now I’m so struck by the
magnitude of what we are dealing with that I’m almost at this

Too huge for me to make even a dent in it.
