Chairman of BCI, Manan K Mishra: today people from all over India are here to welcome CJI Ramana. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has made this program more beautiful.
Chairman of BCI lays down the career graph of CJI Ramana

Mishra: CJI is known as the upholder of civil rights.

#supremecourt #CJIRamana
Mishra: The virtual hearing has compelled majority lawyers to leave the profession, they are on the roads today and only elite lawyers have pocketed the money. We are grateful that CJI wrote to Law Minister to explain the plight of lawyers. we are grateful to you #supremecourt
Mishra: rarely we find such a bar friendly judge like Justice Ramana. Only you and only you can issue direction to High Courts to resume physical hearings.
Mishra: the appointment of 9 judges in one go was a marvelous event in India. Only CJI Ramana could do this. Only today we saw that 68 names have been cleared for appointments in various high courts.
Mishra: When constructing buildings, all facilities are provided for judicial officers but the lawyers are expected to satisfy themselves under the sky and tin shade. Since you are down to earth we are daring to put this before you. the govt is not doing anything.
Mishra: lawyers have no social security. During COVID thousands of lawyers have died.
Mishra: Large number of lawyers are practicing without passing the bar exam. there is no machinery to check this. if a direction is issued by Supreme Court and High Court to civil courts that bar council number be made compulsory to issue vakalatnama. this is a way..
Mishra : Sir... (to CJI) bulaaye hai toh apne liye kuchh kehna hi padega na (if we have called you, we will say something.... )
Mishra: willingly no lawyer association decides to go on a strike. its only in rarest of rare case. sometime sits because of rude and harsh behaviour and sometimes its because of other issues.
Mishra: If not, then bar associations take stern action. But there should be forum at att levels who could listen to the bar associations and grievances of lawyers to redress this.
Mishra: kursi par toh sabhi baithte hai par kuchh log baithte hain toh chair is happy andn kuchh log ke aane se chair days count karte hai. What we mean is bar is so happy to have you.
Mishra: we failed to maintain social distancing norms too (laughs)
SG Tushar Mehta: There are certain speakers who are fillers between the main event and the main speaker. I think that is the role assigned to me ! Image
SG: We have known CJI Ramana not just as a judge but as a good human being. My Lord is both a good human being and a great judge.
SG: Justice Ramana is not a god fearing person but a god loving person. apart from his legal brilliance and his impartiality, his human quality as a judge makes him stand apart. We are fortunate that he is a karta of our hindu family, lawyers family.
DMK MP P Wilson: there should be representative judiciary. Supreme court is like a parliament. we are grateful that among the nine judges, there is one from our state. Let all high courts be represented in the Supreme Court, there should also be regional benches of #SupremeCourt
Wilson: Tamil Nadu has only 1 percent litigation in Supreme Court since it is far away and that is where cost factor comes into. As Dr Ambedkar said Article 32 is heart and soul of constitution and let this heart and soul come to regional benches. @PWilsonDMK
Sr Adv Vivek Tankha: I have no requests. I have only come here to felicitate you sir (CJI Ramana)

@VTankha
Justice MM Sundresh: Anybody who holds an office of eminence must be humble and simple, CJI Ramana possesses both the quality. When i went to meet him, he did not treat me as a junior judge and had elaborate discussion with me Image
Justice Sundresh: There is a newspaper reporting today on adequate women representation in Supreme Court. One of my sister judges told CJI Ramana that they wanted to take a pic with him and one of them said world will see the women power!
Justice Sundresh: I thought to myself that the women judges have been appointed but by a man.
Justice BR Gavai: When the lockdown was imposed, we started working in virtual mode within 24 hours under the guidance of My Lord. This was done so that people are not denied access to justice. Image
Justice Gavai: he is a true elder brother to us. When sitting with him i can see a real concern for the marginalized section of the society and downtrodden. With you common people think they are represented in Supreme Court
Justice Vineet Saran: I have known CJI for nearly two decades ago. He cares for everybody. A young girl had also written to CJI yesterday that when schools have opened then why not the courts. CJI has taken note of it as a PIL and will be heard shortly. Image
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju @KirenRijiju : When i met CJI Ramana for first time, i did not know him a lot. I had heard about him from friends and media. in our first interaction i had realised that we have CJI in whom we have full faith and trust Image
Union Law Minister: the issues which Mr Mishra informed us about problems of lawyers who don't have the protection of firms. I promise from here that we will do everything that we can for them @KirenRijiju
.@KirenRijiju : Govt will not only strengthen the independence of judiciary but also provide support the same !
Union Law Minister: we talk about pendency in Supreme Court and High Court but the real problem is in lower courts. when a person from rural area expects justice, he sells off everything for justice like land etc. if justice gets delayed then its a big question mark for all of us
.@KirenRijiju :denying justice beyond a period of three years is a real delay and by that time justice is not even needed!

CJI NV Ramana begins his address: while coming here I saw a elaborate lunch organised by BCI. I did not understand the reason then but now i do ! my job is more critical and responsible now after seeing your overwhelming response Image
CJI: really after so many days I am visitng this hall. Lat time i had visited this place during Justice Gogoi's tenure. I was thinking whether it is time to have a physical meeting with the members of the bar, but i could not resist. my roots in bar

#SupremeCourt #CJIRamana
CJI: My honest confession is i enjoyed my time more at the bar than being a judge. This is my honest confession ! You have more freedom to speak your mind, judgeship is more of a responsibility and expectations of citizen of the country

#SupremeCourt #CJIRamana
CJI: i want a comprehensive thought process should reflect in my written speech. Its my duty to express my feelings about the bar and system

#SupremeCourt #CJIRamana
CJI: lawyers being crusader of rights are important in wheels of justice. BCI has been working to promote well being of lawyers and creating awareness of law and providing legal. BCI is an institution of great social relevance.

#SupremeCourt #CJIRamana
CJI: law was often seen as a rich mans profession..slowly dynamics are changing due to change in social conditions and opportunities opening to be lawyer and judges

#SupremeCourt #CJIRamana
CJI: . but majority in rural areas are not getting to join law schools and legal profession sadly remains are urban profession !

#Supremecourt @CJIRamana
CJI: After 75 years of independence one would expect 50 percent of women representation at all levels but we have been able to achieve only 11 percent in the Supreme Court.
CJI on corporatization of profession: many bright you lawyers are joining law firms. This is causing a decline in traditional practice. common people cannot afford these firms, lacs of people are unable to access courts for justice.
CJI: judicial system is facing deficient in infrastructure, shortage of judges and staff. these are hard facts. India needs a national judicial infrastructure commission. I had mentioned this in Goa speech. I have seen this physically in HC days that women don't have toilets !!
CJI: after becoming a ACJ, i made some provision for women toilets in the basement of the court complex. this is because all these buildings were made by the britishers.
CJI: I have made a voluminous report which i will present to law minister on how many courts, court rooms we need, how many infrastructure issues need to be addressed.
CJI: Collegium has recommended 82 names yesterday for High Courts. we hope the centre will clear these names as the nine names for Supreme Court was cleared.
CJI: a lawyer needs to be an all rounder and versatile personality and must know about several fields like economics, law, literature etc. I call upon all of you to help the needy, the poor and the disadvantaged. extend legal aid
CJI to young lawyers: seniority has immense value. always respect seniors... respect women colleagues and treat them with dignity. you are the frontline of legal institution and you must protect the institution from mala fide and motivated attacks.
CJI: due to pandemic lawyers who cannot adapt to modern technologies were left behind. this disparity is not good for the nation. today reports stated that i expressed displeasure about video conferencing facility
CJI:It is true connectivity is a big issue. we have told the law minister that internet connectivity needs to be increased in rural areas. I request law minister to provide ISP in rural talukas so that lawyers can access hearings. District lawyers are appearing in moffussil court
CJI: with a young and dyamic law minister in office we can expect positive developments in rapid pace. he has enough wisdom and enough knowledge. i thought he is a college student, when i met him. i don't want to know his secrets of ageing so well.
CJI: i told him that pending vacancies are an issue and he cleared all the nine names within 7 days. this was a record time. i expect the same speed for the high court names recommended by us.
CJI: True, we [lawyers] build no bridges. We raise no towers. We construct no engines. We paint no pictures—unless as amateurs for our own principal amusement. There is little of all that we do which the eye of man can see. But we smooth out difficulties;
CJI: we relieve stress; we correct mistakes; we take up other men's burdens and by our efforts we make possible the peaceful life of men in a peaceful state.: John W. Davis
CJI: the bar and the bench should interact with each other and i believe we should not live in ivory towers.
CJI: you all praised me for the appointments but i am no Tendulkar. It was team work (refers to the Supreme Court collegium)

#supremecourt
CJI: you have all turned this Saturday into a memorable day of my life.

CJI speech ends.

#supremecourt
Even comes to an end.

All the attendees rise for the National Anthem

#supremecourt
With a dynamic Law Minister, we hope Collegium recommendations for High Court will be cleared rapidly as was done for SC: CJI NV Ramana
