The thin "evidence" cited by @CMOH_Alberta to abandon #testtraceisolate seems to confirm what many long suspected. She is not acting in the public's interest and is ineffective in protecting our health. She has lost the legitimacy to hold her office. /1
The "evidence" relied on to make decisions that could cost some people their lives was embarrassingly scant, much of it was not peer reviewed, several studies had methodologies that limited the usefulness of their conclusions, and much of it was dated. /2
Puzzlingly, several sources that were allegedly relied on in getting rid of #testtraceisolate were not published until after that recommendation was made. There is already a high level of distrust and the suggestion of manufactured after-the-fact justifications does not help. /3
The document describes the effects of covid restrictions such as social isolation, reduced childhood immunization rates, and delayed surgeries. This background info is a distraction from the task at hand, which is to explain the justification for abandoning #testtraceisolate. /4
For example, while social isolation was an important factor when there were restrictions on gatherings, #testtraceisolate does not have the same impact. Similarly, abandoning those basic public health measures will only exacerbate the delayed surgeries issue. /5
Others have noted important critiques with the gov's models, which were highly inaccurate, such as the failure to account for events like the Stampede or the limits of a model that presumes geographically even vaccine coverage. /6
This document and what we have seen over the past year demonstrates what can happen when science and ethics are clouded by politics. Just as the SARS report and the ON inquiry into LTC concluded, this should serve as yet another call to make CMOHs independent of government. /fin
