At least the West must acknowledge and accept that after a botched up, ill-planned exit from Afghanistan, the looming humanitarian crisis is their responsibility. Before they lecture the world on universal human rights, they must practice what they preach!

2. Easy to blame Pakistan for its (continued) support to Taliban, even easier to blame Afghanistan's neighbours not accepting refugees.

What is hard to admit: Yes we fuc*ed up big time, killed hundreds of thousands and wasted billions of taxpayers' money.
"We had no plan!"

3. The White Saviours' project of liberating #AfghanWomen was convenient, marketable in 2001 but certainly matters little in 2021. Shows how skin-deep and opportunistic it was then and now!

4. This is also a moment of reckoning for the #aid agencies that were unable to move beyond the strategic objectives of development assistance. Billions poured into the country obviously failed to achieve their objectives, glossy reports of 'achievements' notwithstanding.

5. The mythology of outsiders contributing to 'state building' must also be laid to rest now. You cannot build a place after ruining it by financing a decade long civil war using violent extremists & then bombing the country with daisy cutters+other toys mil-ind complex produces!

6. State institutions grow organically, require peace and political consensus and evolve out of complex local negotiations. It was delusional to think that outsiders could actually do that in a diverse, multi-cultural, polarised, war torn country they had no clue about!

7. And for those in Pakistan celebrating: Thinking that a proxy war has been "won" on Afghan dead bodies is no victory. In fact it is morally reprehensible and defeatist.
Amnesia about TTP & T-whitewashing might suit the moment but history tells us that this will be short-lived.
