I can't believe this is true, but it is. One of my favorite actors left us
Michael K. Williams was SO talented. He was fantastic in The Wire of course & in everything he's done after (Boardwalk Empire, Lovecraft Country, etc).
The only time he almost worked on space fiction...
...it was to play (in motion capture) the evil Dryden Vos in Solo (2018). Sadly he couldn't be available for the reshoot with Ron Howard, and was replaced by Paul Bettany.
He was 54.
My thoughts to his family, friends and close ones. He was an amazing actor. Amazing.
Here are 4 concept art for the original, Michael K. Williams "MOCAP" version of Dryden Vos. Yes, even a Lasat like Zeb in SW Rebels.
(Sorry, making these trivial tweets is my way to cope.)
@JakeLuntDavies Four more by Ivan Manzella & Louis Wiltshire.
And more in The Art of Solo.
@JakeLuntDavies โThere are some things in life, you just gotta laugh at it. That was such an odd turn of events. (...) What are the odds of that happening? There comes a point, you just gotta throw your hands up and, you know what, it just wasnโt meant to be.โ ew.com/movies/2018/03โฆ
@JakeLuntDavies โWhat saddens me most is I was very proud of the work that I did. (...) We was on the spaceship, and we all had these amazing scenes together, and I thought it was a great opportunity, and I thought it was some great stuff. Itโs unfortunate the world wonโt get to see it."
@JakeLuntDavies โEven though I didnโt make the final cut, theyโre still my cast mates. I love you guys.โ
And I still hoped he'll play in a future Star Wars thing. Anything. Because I really think he was one of the greatest actor of this era.
I'll miss him.
@JakeLuntDavies He played my favorite character in my favorite TV series ever. For which he was nominated at NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.
Thank you, Michael. Your talent will not be forgotten.

You can gather Qui-Gon Jinn, John Carter, Hogun & Captain Robert Daly of the USS Callister on a ship, it's still not my cup of โ But I saw it, I finished my mission.
But the ships have character. As often, even if the movie leaves me cold, the work upstream is nice.
The Last Jedi (2017): "T-wing", aka Resistance Bomber MG-100 StarFortress SF-17, art by James Clyne
Again: There is gravity in the ship, the bombs drop and pass through the shields, then follow their trajectory steadily through space.
Explaining just because I'm a little fed up of the same comments each time I show this ship. "it's SW, it's not hard scifi, it's inspired by WW2" is my favorite explanation ๐
However, this is an "art of" tweet as usual, about James Clyne ๐
Ship thread incoming ๐
To clarify: in-universe, there is an electromagnetic projection system and the bombs are magnetically attracted. But even the basic premise, which we saw in the movie, should come as no surprise. It is on this basis that this ship was imagined in pre-production. It's a B-52.
Winchell is a space fiction legend, to whom we wish all the courage possible. His work is immense, and has inspired a lot of people around the world (and the galaxy).
If so, can you please tell or show how much he inspired you?
For my part, his work is a fantastic source that allows me (in particular) to answer people: no, space fiction is generally not realistic.
And how many stories I dreamed of, reading his articles.
And he inspired me something for 2022/3.
I send him my best wishes for recovery with the greatest sincerity, because of all the people I have met here, Winchell is one of the most beautiful. Not only is his work amazing, but he is himself on social media: kind and helpful.
Without doubt one of my favorite trailers of the year. Just give me some mysteries, some clues, some nice shots by directors of photography Daniele Massaccesi and John Toll, and Jefferson Airplane to keep me happy.
And with all these clues, these next three months will make me happy.
