The majority of children under the age of twelve may be infected by the delta variant before a vaccine is available to them. I just donated 1000 kf94 masks to our local mutual aid. If you have or know a child in school consider doing the same. behealthyusa.net/collections/sm…#tweet100
Apologies for the lack of chill. I hope that by doing the #tweet100 challenge that I might diversify my engagement a little bit, but when push comes to shove I had to start here: this is the most important thing I know. In modeling funded by the CDC.. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
.. 25%-50% is the *lowest* infection rate we can expect over the next three months in elementary schools given reasonable assumptions (the green and orange-ish lines). Three months is close to the fastest the fda might get an approved vaccine out to children under 12 months.
We (finally!) have good data on masks thanks to this massive study in Bangladesh. washingtonpost.com/world/2021/09/… Surgical masks are better than cloth masks. These KF94’s are better than surgical masks, perhaps by a lot. So let’s get kids the right masks!

We have been building homes in rural Haiti over the last year and have completed 8 of 15. In the recent earth quake, these homes survived. I’m just starting a gofundme so we can begin the next 7. I committed myself to share it by EOD. #tweet100gofund.me/fe3a9846
2/ Check out the link! It’s the first time I’ve ever run such a drive so if anyone has experience or feedback I’d love to hear it. The project origins: At the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns in spring 2020 our family first had to adjust to the shock to our own lives..
3/ but as we adjusted to the change our next thought was our friends at @MPM_Haitimpmhaiti.org. Years ago, when I was first wondering how to go about charitable giving my friend @matt_belcher said I should talk to his friend Christian, who co-founded the charity..
.@co2detective 24 hours of co2 with the cooperation of my son’s preschool, which we appreciate very much. The chart is bounded by outside air.. picking up and dropping off the sensor. The levels aren’t great but there is some good info here. 1/
We can see how the system clears CO2 overnight.. though don’t know if it was running full out. Can anything be inferred about the overall transfer rate here I wonder. 2/
Unfortunately there are no windows by design, just a door that opens onto a street. They open it when the kids are at recess and this seems to work pretty well.. the easiest adjustment might be to put a fan in door to try to clear the entire room here.. 3/
0/ *brief* summary and implications of imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial… , a preprint from imperial college in December on evolution of b117 during the second English lockdown of November of 2020.
1/ The key finding was they looked at 42 regions for the 4 weeks of lockdown in Nov.. so 168 samples, and tracked b117 and non-b117 cases. In 34 both increased, in 36 both decreased. In 97 non-b117 increased and b117 increased. In only ONE did b117 decrease and non-b117 increase.
2/ They concluded that b117 had a transmission advantage large enough to frequently continue to grow even in situations in which non-b117 declined. They also tested, and rejected, other explanations such as being able to reinfecting previously infected individuals.
