Facebook asked what is on my mind. By now, everyone (in Knoxville) should know what’s on my mind-Knox County Schools lost a bus driver and a teacher to COVID yesterday-they were both in special ed, which is an extra stab in my heart. It didn’t have to happen.
I spent last night looking at the teacher’s Facebook page. Obviously a fun and loving woman loved by many. Peace to her and her family. I’m not saying her name as I don’t know if it’s public yet, I know they wanted to tell her students this morning.
I did the same for posts I could find about Tammy, the bus driver. She had 3 kids and 5 grandkids I’m told, and no insurance. There was a go fund me for her someone shared. Peace to her and her family as well. gofundme.com/f/aw2b8-help-t…
I hope local journalists ask the 5 BOE members their feelings on this. I hope they are asked if they regret their votes against mitigation.
I wonder if they had statements planned on how they would justify their votes when this happened-because anyone with half a brain knew it would. They knew it would when they voted against mitigation.
When I say they are clowns, this is what I mean. They are not serious people, they are not taking their roles seriously. They are endangering TN lives for their politics and ignoring reason. It is malicious ignorance.
How many have to die before our Governor, county mayor, speaker, BOE, and GOP legislators will actually do something to help mitigate this virus to keep families safe. My fear is that # doesn’t exist. No loss of life is enough for them to put peoples lives before their politics.
I am sad, I am angry, and I will continue to fight like hell against these maliciously ignorant folks putting lives at risk every day. And I will say a prayer for them, because their behavior isn’t normal, there is something seriously wrong in their souls.
I’m sure I’ll have much more to say, still processing. Please get the vaccine and please wear a mask.

If @KnoxSchools COVID-19 numbers are true, then private/home school kids have an infection rate ~3,129.80% higher than public school kids. This is blatantly unbelievable from statistical and common sense perspectives. @usedgov and @CivilRights should investigate.
Glad to see that KCS admitted their inaccurate #s. How do we trust folks in a pandemic when they aren’t transparent with data. A whole lot of folks were using the bad faith data posted by KCS to downplay the situation. bit.ly/3trcmo9
If they only have a limited portion of the data, that needs to be noted. Educated people should know better than to mislead the public. They have already lost the public trust with no mitigation-now they have taken it further.
Thread👇🏼While people are making bad faith arguments about masks and vaccines, TN teachers and staff are dying from COVID, we have mitigation, we have a vaccine-we must use them.
This is what I was speaking about on the radio today, reading 1 data point doesn’t give you the info you need. According to TN DoH, Knox Co has 2461 school age kids (5-18 years old) who have tested positive in last 14 days.
Knox Co overall reported 962 new cases for the day.
The radio host was reading new cases for the day, not all cases. He was also not counting number of students quarantined with close contact and no test access. A perfect example of why you can’t use a single data point for conclusions.
Aug 31 it was 1828 positive school age kids in the last 14 days in Knox, now we are at 2461!
👇🏼A thread about folks who make bad faith arguments about mask wearing at BOE meetings seem also to tell lies about teachers calling in sick. #MaliciousIgnorance
I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that people making bad faith arguments at BOE meetings are also going around screen shotting my Facebook comments as their lives must be so small and petty. (Thanks for reading, maybe you will learn something;-)
Yes, people are asking me what I think will make the KCS BOE listen to the pleas of doctors, teachers, parents, scientists, and children.
Thread👇🏼 🚨🚨🚨 Please share this factual post with your friends in the city of Knoxville.
Let’s talk facts on city taxes, because there are a lot of lies being told in my City Council district that need to be cleared up.
Our current tax rate is the lowest it’s been in 30 years. Under Haslam, the rate was raised 3.05 (per $100 of assessed value) Rogero dropped it down to 2.73 and the current rate is 2.46. Next year the county will appraise houses and an estimated 30% increase (Compass Knox).
If homes are appraised at an increase, due to state equalization law, the tax rate is required to adjust downward. It is estimated to go down to roughly 2.22. (Remember it was 3.05 under Haslam and is currently at 30 year low.)
There is no better indication you are doing something wrong, than not allowing opposing comment. Today GOP Chairs in GovOps said they were postponing the health department discussion, yet they read a lengthy statement of their own, but did not allow response from Dems or Docs.
I was disappointed in Sen Roberts today, as he is usually good to allow debate. The response he read incorrectly interpreted the federal law in addition to other incorrect information in the statement-the public deserves the truth and opposing comment.
The truth is @drfixus was fired for following TN law and the Dept of Health mission. Fired for information cleared by the Governor’s comms team and created by Design Sensory. Fired for doing her best to keep TN families safe. A scapegoat for anti-science legislators.
