So COVID update.

This is a map of county wide hospitalizations. If you have paid attention the last few weeks, this map is getting darker, and the darkness is moving north across the board.
Another variation that maps 'danger'...again, the purple colors are worrisome. See PA, OH, IN, IL, NoCA, OR...its moving north.
This shows county increase in hospitalizations. This is a little skewed because some of the counties are so small...but you get the idea.
The US overall decreased by 7%. But states are starting to clearly see surges.

ND, ID, ME and my home state of OH clearly in the midst of the surge.
Lets look at PA. Kind of a purple state, kind of a NE/Midwest state. They got hit pretty hard last year, so fair amount of endemic immunity. They are right in the middle of vaccination rates at 56% totally vaccinated.

And...yeah. They are clearly seeing a surge.
Another state: MA.

One of the highest natural immunity and vaccinated states in the nation.

And they look like they are about a week or two behind PA.

This is coming for everyone. Batten the hatches.

THE SOUTH WAS NOT UNIQUE OR SURPRISING.

This got me thinking...how are the best countries doing?

Malta right now is the highest in the world, with 83% fully vaccinated (!!!).

And...?
This is Malta.

Note that they too had a surge this summer. A fairly significant one, relatively speaking.
Fortunately, Malta has never had huge numbers of deaths. So whether there is some statistical significance in the death rate is probably impossible to calculate.

She is an expert?

I mean...in that short span, she got at least three legal issues wrong.
Again, from @jadler1969...would be nice if TV 'experts' at least read the counterpoint before making such grand claims.

Biden, Walensky, etc have completely, utterly failed on their vaccine messaging.

First, it was get vaxxed...it will end the pandemic!
Then, it was "JNJ might cause a rare side effect...lets pull it off the market."
Then, they went back to masks for some reason.
Now, it appears to be "vaccines sort of work, but sort of don't." That has been their message all summer. And this mandate basically reinforces the idea that vaccines...aren't going to end the pandemic.

They are a complete utter mess.
And 'whatabout Trump' isn't good enough.

These clowns were elected to be BETTER THAN TRUMP.

And they can't even jump over that lowest of low bars.

As someone that has begged - pleaded - coaxed - to have hesitant unvaccinated get the vaccine, I am just pissed off.

If you think Biden's order makes it easier for people like me to convince the hesitant to get vaccinated...you clearly don't have a clue about the reality.
I've been dealing with this issue for YEARS. It started with the autism/vaccination debates.

And you know what works with people resistant to vaccines?

Understanding. Patience. Logic and reason. Sympathy. Understanding. And above all...RESPECT.

This order shows disrespect.
The one thing that never, ever worked for me is "OH, I AM A DOCTOR. YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO ME! I AM SMARTER THAN YOU. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!"

That is exactly the type of BS that turns off people that are concerned about their own well being.

The second point is one that many, many people simply don't understand or are unwilling to acknowledge.
The real threat to kids...is hospitalizations. Unvaxed kids have approximately the same risk as a vaxed middle aged adult at being hospitalized.

This is why we still need vaccinations for kids.
1. There is no reason we couldn't have had a pediatric vaccine already.
2. We talk about schools, etc...but most serious childhood COVID cases are cases where kids get it AT HOME. Going to school (with or without masks) may actually DECREASE their risk. But it inc risk of family.

So COVID charts...again. Its clear that the deep South's COVID surge is ending. Here is FL, TX.

What's interesting...and concerning, is what is happening elsewhere.
For example...what state is this?
That is my home state of Ohio. We are in the midst of a surge. Deaths are rising too.
