this weekend i realized why making goals and/or Konmari'ing your belongs is so hard: you need an identity to frame those things around, and THAT's actually the hard part shesabeast.substack.com/p/why-its-hard…
almost everything about working out is framed around losing weight, or pretends to not but really does at its root, and understandably, most people don't actually orient their identity around "being thinner"
this was prompted in part by maggie lange's excellent Hot Bod column on why it's so hard to talk about working out, a problem that has bothered me personally forever!!! thecut.com/2021/09/why-is…
we are really all just out here suffering in silence alone except for the bros who like to talk about how much each other lifts going YO WHATS YOUR BENCH BRO
and then there's also links in here to stuff like people's romantic partners being mad about them giggling away at their Peloton instructor in the next room, the good drama that i love shesabeast.substack.com/p/why-its-hard…
this is the free version of the newsletter so if you like it, good news--you don't even have to pay money to receive it right in your inbox!! shesabeast.substack.com/subscribe

when the diet industry pushes “weight loss,” whether it's 10 or 100 pounds, it’s not only wasting our time with a goal they fully expect us to fail to keep us in that cycle forever, but actively preventing good food and exercise relationships. abusive! vice.com/en/article/93y…
and i made a series of very shitty infographics about how cyclical dieting ACTUALLY SCIENTIFICALLY gets harder every time because of what it does to your body here instagram.com/p/CL-CJzvJxG2/
Oh my god this fuckin bastard manipulated his way into being part of the guest host rotation and then said whoops haha I guess I’m also one of the most popular hosts! Better not let America down theringer.com/tv/2021/8/5/22…
I’m sorry but facts are facts; according to the polls I ran, I’m the number one guy in the group
there had to be a version of this story with more photos from the front until some editor took his glasses off and rubbed his forehead and blurted out "we just can't run a bunch of pictures of tits in the new york times" nytimes.com/2021/07/22/fas…
this does mean on someone's hard drive at the new york times there's just a pile of photos of cans. large cans, small cans, and cans that are in between
when the "shirts off" guy's "shirts off" radar gets going it's time for another article
my technical commentary has been requested: no reason to do kipping pullups unless you are competing, and actually competitive in, crossfit, which MJG need not worry about since crossfit said a few weeks ago "we want nothing to do with this bitch" buzzfeednews.com/article/ryancb…
it seems this is a lot of people's first encounter with kipping pullups lol, one of many reasons people are a little afraid of crossfit
believe me that i get the impulse to want to try and construct the perfect argument, find the perfect angle, assemble perfect logic so that no one could possibly not understand. some people don't understand because they don't want to. in that case you just have to say "no"
many believe "saying no means you don't love them." because their mom says so. i'm here to say: it's not true, and your mom is being a jerk to you when she does that. you can love her even if she is a jerk, but loving her doesn't mean letting her get AWAY with being a jerk
