Reminder that the recall cost the taxpayers of California some $276 million. (Plus the gobs donors spent.)

Seems like that could have been put to better use.

In a pandemic.

And a climate crisis.

And a housing crisis.
"Reform the recall" campaign should start tomorrow. motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
Exit polls (which, grains of salt, but usually about particular demographics) show that Californians approve of mask mandates and other ant-pandemic measures.
If I could have stuck a question into the exit poll process, it would have been how much what's been happening in Texas has been on the mind of Californians.
The 5th largest economy in the world gets to keep someone who is (imperfectly but) pursing a real climate agenda.

That's the biggest win tonight.

Shang-Chi was really good. And a great SF hills chase scene, up there with the best of them.
Also it's really nice to have a movie where lead male/female cis-het characters can nonetheless just be friends, and super convincingly so.
I am however confused by how this movie fits into the MCU timeline. And guess I shouldn't I have skipped Iron Man 3 after all?

100%. It's a mystery to me why this wasn't included in Biden's announcements today.

Mandate you'll need to be fully vaccinated to fly for Thanksgiving and watch a whole bunch of hesitant/stubborn but not totally insane people leap at the chance for a jab.
Hey, don't want to get vaccinated? You can drive 1,500 miles to grandma's. Your choice!
Proof of vaccination to get through TSA would cut down on all this anti-masker insanity in airports and on planes.

Yes, the lines would be hellacious as it was rolled out.

Doubling the "refuse to wear masks fines in airports and on planes" fine is insufficient.

this is a truly disgusting fishing expedition...

like what on god's green earth could possibly be relevant to the slaughter of first graders and their teachers?
Here are some fun facts about Remington: motherjones.com/politics/2016/…

“Nobody can tell me to wear a mask but I can tell you must have a child”
GOP: The "freedom of the individual"—even if the supposed infringement of that freedom is passingly small and the collective cost is staggeringly high—is paramount, right up to the uterus' door.

And expect no help in feeding, raising that child.
GOP: An unborn child is precious. But once they leave the womb, they must be sacrificed to the gods of "freedom," if that's what it takes for people to watch football at a sports bar without a mask.

As I've had my only vacation in 2+ years ethered by needing to take care of a breakthrough case whom I know to be both vaxxed and careful, I'd really like a better understanding of this too. Especially after reading this story: baltimoresun.com/opinion/op-ed/…
This @joshtmp piece (h/t @LoveWinzAlways) points to new data that might explain. Caveat both Josh and I are non-science journalists: talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/the-num…

tl; dr: VAX UP Image
Again, I urge everyone to read this by a Johns Hopkins epidemiologist who went to a dinner party with 13 other vaxxed adults. 11 of whom got COVID. CDC should be tracking breakthrough cases to better hone in on risk broadly or more specifically baltimoresun.com/opinion/op-ed/…

.@PreetBharara, who, reminder, is now a podcaster and has no influence over the investigation into Cuomo, should do an emergency podcast on just how insane this all is.
"...Mr. Kim played major roles in the SDNY’s grand jury investigation of Governor Cuomo’s disbanding of the Moreland Commission and the subsequent grand jury investigation and prosecution of Joseph Percoco, a very close friend of the Governor and a member of his administration."
is maybe not the defense that you think it is?
