The refugees that have fled to #DelRio are human beings fleeing the most desperate circumstances. Violence, extreme poverty and political oppression. nytimes.com/2021/09/16/us/…
They’re not coming to endanger our lives, they’re coming to save their own. Haitians have added great contributions to our nation in medicine, education and science; as well as other immigrants who have contributed to a better quality of life for all Americans.
We must have compassion and empathy for these desperate families, women and children. We are a nation of immigrants and refugees who have fled to the shores of America for a better life.
As the Statute of Liberty reminds us, those very immigrants have helped make America a better nation. I encourage the Federal Government to allocate more resources to process these refugees.

This year Haitians have witnessed the assassination of their President and another debilitating earthquake that has affected over 800,000 people and killed thousands. 1/8
Many of the individuals that fled to the US Southern border are attempting to escape political oppression, persecution, instability and state failure. Haitians are among some of the most vulnerable people in the world. 2/8
For decades, Haiti has been, and remains, one of the poorest countries in the world. These migrants will be returned to Haiti, Mexico, Ecuador, and Northern Triangle countries. We have a duty to increase humanitarian aid to these countries. 3/8 @nytimes nytimes.com/2021/09/17/us/…
Nine months after the January 6 insurrection, believers in the Big Lie have scheduled a rally this Saturday in Washington to show solidarity with the domestic terrorists whose violence and mayhem led to the deaths of six persons, cnn.com/2021/09/15/pol…
including two @CapitolPolice officers, injured more than 138 officers from the @CapitolPolice Department and the Washington Metropolitan @DCPoliceDept, and will cause hundreds more to suffer for years to come from post-traumatic stress disorder. cnn.it/3EgEr6z
While the right to protest is constitutionally protected, resort to violence and lawlessness is not and I call upon the relevant law enforcement authorities to expeditiously secure the Capitol and ensure that the rally remains peaceful. washingtonian.com/2021/09/15/sep…
1/6 As a member of the United States Congress, I formerly chaired the Transportation, Security, and Infrastructure Committee and at that time discussed the energy grid of the United States and how vulnerable it was, and raised the issue of what America was doing to
2/6 protect the grid, and other vulnerable infrastructure. After seeing what has happened to Colonial Pipeline fuel tanks, and the ability of this vicious cybersecurity attack to potentially shut down America's energy sources and other vulnerable infrastructure we truly have a
3/6 major crisis. I applaud the Biden administration for immediately seeking to investigate the source of this crisis and will support them in any and all sanctions and accountability that they will devise. But it is imperative that Congress moves quickly on all forms of
1/4 On the Monday after Mother's Day, I want to ensure that my words of appreciation and love for mothers in America and around the world are spoken. To the mothers who, through this year-plus of the COVID-19 pandemic, have been so many things to so many people, from
2/4 being mothers, teachers, healers, comforters, and yes, we even had mothers who lost their own lives in the battle against COVID-19. Yesterday was the day to remember them all and for us to never forget the depth of love, dedication, commitment, sacrifice, and service, and
3/4 just plain being mothers that all of our mothers have been to us in our lives. I wanted all of you to know that yesterday was the day that love was shown to all of you, but that we love you every single day and are grateful that we have had mothers in our lives. I am very
1/4 Testimony today on the Hill evidences that in the Portland protests, a thousand people were arrested. People protesting against the violence that was evidenced in the George Floyd murder. People wanting good things to happen. In Washington DC on January 6th, where it is
2/4 alleged that 40,000 protesters were in DC with the mindset to overturn a legitimate election and to kill the Speaker, the Vice President, and Members of Congress, in that instance, only 300 persons have now been arrested and are being prosecuted. What kind of justice is that?
3/4 How clearly does that show a racial and political divide where protestors who want to overthrow the government who were the supporters of the former president and exhibited acts of racism were barely prosecuted and barely arrested? The FBI failed to provide detailed
1/5 I am more than disappointed and, in fact, stunned by the removal of the COVID-19 mandates in the State of Texas that has for many weeks been a hot spot for COVID-19. These are the numbers that are real: 504,499 deaths in the United States, 46,738 currently hospitalized, and
2/5 28,399,281 infections; 42,995 deaths in Texas, 5,611 currently hospitalized, and 2,647,845 cases. It is shocking that after meeting with President Biden, who made every commitment to provide more vaccines to Texas because of the large impact of COVID-19 amongst the state’s
3/5 population. That five days after that visit, the governor would pull the rug from underneath the people of Texas and steer us in the direction of COVID pandemonium by lifting the mask mandate and all restrictions. The state should instead maintain wearing our masks, social
