It's not well known outside of medical circles, but there's been a long-running fight between cautious physicians and a libertarian group who have been advocating allowing the virus to run rampant to produce natural immunity in the population - no matter the cost in lives.

They signed a document called the 'Great Barrington Declaration' (GBD) - much criticized for its 'let nature run its course' or 'let the weak die off' take on pandemic management. @tylercowen writes a strong critique here:

A few things that astonish me about the GBD:
- It's from Oct/2020 - little was known about long-covid and new strains. How could they be so certain this was the best way forward without data to back it up?
- It's backers constantly declare the pandemic over, and are always wrong.

Sadly the GBD has become undeclared policy in the UK, Alberta and red-state USA. Children are a key battleground, and this group advocates against vaccinating children and allowing them to get infected naturally, even though 1/100 will be hospitalized, 1/50 will get Long-Covid.

Physician signatories of the GBD sit on critical committees... and tried to derail approval of vaccines for children at the FDA in July by pushing for longer observation periods in the trials (up to 18 months!):

This faction over-reached when they recommended against vaccinating 12-15 year olds in the UK, and were overruled by the PM:

Signs that your government is following the GBD approach:
- statements like: 'only people with co-morbidities are dying' - not true, and an inhuman, eugenicist take on life
- they force children into unsafe schools with no masks, ventilation upgrades or other easy mitigations.
