India is the only country & Hinduism is the only religion in which you are constantly harassed to cite from Hindu scriptures for following traditions. NO OTHER culture does that. Entire Europe has traditions which are based on nothing but a continued practice.
So many indigenous cultures have no written records at all. ALL knowledge is passed down from one generation to another through traditions!
Traditions are the time-tested way of preserving knowledge, esp practical knowledge, rather than theoretical.

Traditions are not even necessarily limited to a religion. They are local, regional, run in families, even educational institutions.
Then WHY is only Hinduism constantly targeted? And why are Hindus always on back foot in justifying them?

Destroying traditions is destroying 1) heritage 2) the chain of transfer of knowledge.
Traditions give a sense of continuity & connection through generations, esp in a world that's changing so fast.
This is why preserving them IS important.
