⭐️ Pleased to inform you that today we had a meeting with @KateGreenSU and @peterkyle to discuss the issues surrounding the lack of scientifically recognised mitigations in U.K. schools.
We are extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to speak to them both together
We provided a list of key points that we felt @UKLabour should be able to support & push forward and are happy to say both @KateGreenSU and @peterkyle were engaged & interested and have confirmed they will take this forward with their work in covid recovery policy discussions.
Here is a list of the action points/suggested actions we discussed and would like taken forward by @UKLabour ;
1. Publicly announce and campaign against punitive non-attendance measures
2. Publicly condemn the removal of CEV status from those who have clinical vulnerabilities
3. Send a clear message to the general public, schools & @educationgovuk that masks are an effective measure used around the world by all ages to limit transmission in schools and would constitute best practice in the U.K.
4. Demand that all schools have an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessor visit - by end of half term.
5. Demand that all further @educationgovuk guidance is firmly grounded in H&S legislation and scientifically recognised infection control principles.
6. Specifically raise the issue with school leaders and @educationgovuk the issues regarding lunchtime provision and mitigations required.
7. Demand that schools conduct contact tracing.
8. Insist that isolations of those whom live with a person who has tested positive must still take place.
9. SARS-CoV2 is a NOTIFIABLE DISEASE please demand that schools make parents and staff aware when there has been a confirmed case.
10. Overall please demand equity of mitigations and information.
11. We would like your support in preventing any delay to the delivery of providing the approved vaccines to those who can have and want them.
As always we made it clear that it is not acceptable to unnecessarily and knowingly expose ANYONE to increased risk of infection and the U.K. strategy must change to #vaccinateANDmitigate rather than the current pursuit of deliberate infection of our children.
Yes we know the @educationgovuk guidance document is dire and has NO SCIENTIFIC basis.
Following the guidance will not be sufficient defence when a parent or staff member legally challenged your school risk assessment.
So, yep we get it no funding and no support from @educationgovuk means it’s difficult to do WHAT IS NECESSARY to prevent unnecessarily and knowingly exposing your staff, pupils and their families to increased risk of infection.
However, crafty @educationgovuk means it’s YOU not THEM that will face the initial legal action.
Whoever has conducted and signed a risk assessment that is found to breach H&S legislation IS LEGALLY LIABLE.
Worryingly SOME schools are referring parents who have refused to return their children to in-person education (due to the absence of scientifically recognised mitigations) to social services under ‘safeguarding’ reasons.
These schools know that fining parents will not force them to return their children.
These schools know that punitive measures for truancy will not hold up in court and will be costly to pursue - parents have legal representation in place.
These schools know that these parents have never had any safeguarding or attendance issues prior to covid.
