Here’s the thing about what @DezBryant said. It’s not just that Des Bryant is wrong, it’s clear that he’s saying something that white people told him to say.

A thread.
Even the term “bring awareness” proves Dez doesn’t know what he’s talking about
because the narrative surrounding Kaepernick has been so twisted by media outlets that MOST people truly believe Kaepernick wanted to bring social Justice & politics to the biggest platform in sports
That’s not actually what happened.

On August 14, 2016, Kaepernick didn’t stand for the national anthem. It was a personal choice. He didn’t issue a statement or talk about it, for a very good reason:

No one noticed.

August 20, 2016, he did the same thing.

No one noticed.
On August 26, he did it again and a reporter noticed. When he asked Kaepernick about it, he said this:
More importantly, he did this KNOWING that his career could be taken away. So why didn’t he explain himself publicly?

Well, you’ve probably never heard of this crazy idea, but there are people who actually want to know what the hell they’re talking about before they say stuff.
But remember, he wasn’t kneeling during the anthem, he was sitting.

So when did he start disrespecting the flag and the troops by kneeling?

Oh wait….
As you can see, the first part of what Dez said was BS. But again, a lot of people just say shit without knowing what they’re talking about.

But what about Dez’s remark about Kaepernick providing jobs and helping the people who he is “bringing awareness” to?
Remember Kaepernick started kneeling in Sept. 2016

In Oct 2016, he donated $25K to fund a program for 35 kids, including a van, computers & entrepreneur training

The same month, he gave $25k to Mothers against Police Brutality to actually fund investigations & change policy
The next month he gave $50,000 to Justice League NYC and Communities for Police Reform. Both were advocating for reforms like the Right to Know Act, which would stop police from conducting illegal searches without people’s consent.
I know this sounds like pie-in-the-sky radical reforms but it takes money to change policy. You need lawyers to write it up, people to lobby legislators, etc.

Well, guess what happened?
But what about jobs and housing?
And “the people he was talking about?” And the troops?

Wait… In Jan. 2017 this happened, I wonder why Dez didn’t mention it. It took me 20 seconds to Google it.
And he’s still quietly finding groups across the country like Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle in Baltimore who NO ONE can say isnt doing great work or @Home2HeartOrg in Atlanta, who provides homes for single mothers.

It is important to note that Dez could have just said nothing
So why would he say the OPPOSITE of something that is true?

Because he wants back in the NFL, he’ll say what white nationalists tell him to say to make Colin Kaepernick look bad.

Plus everyone knows that Dez Bryant doesn’t give to Black charities.

How do I know this?
Actually, I just made that shit up. I didn’t check to see if he has a foundation or what he does with his money.

But,as Dez Bryant has shown us, apparently facts don’t matter. We can just say dumb shit, now and it becomes true.

Is Tim Scott right?

Do Democrats want to defund the police?

Let’s see.

A (short) thread
What Tim Scott is talking about is the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act’s provision that ties the money police get from the federal govt. In the Democrats plan, if local & state agencies didn’t ban chokeholds, no-knock warrants & report misconduct, they wouldn’t get $
Plus, they’d have to demilitarize, get training & stop shooting Black people in the face.

Do you know how many Black people cops shoot in the face???

Seriously, do you know? Because I don’t. Tim Scott doesn’t. No one does!
That’s because cops don’t have to report it.

You can't really be angry about this picture without getting angry about the backstory.

The reason Haiti has refugees is because of the predicament it is in is BECAUSE of the U.S. policy of white supremacy.

A thread.
I have told the story of the Haitian revolution before, but all you need to know is that when enslaved people in Haiti became the first nation in the history of the world to take control of their country, white people were SHOOK.

You gotta remember, the distance from Haiti to the US is about the same distance from Charleston to NY - The 2 richest cities in the US

But they couldn't fuck with Haiti's wealth (Remember, before the Revolution, America was a colony. After the revolution, the US was broke AF)

People really just say shit without actually knowing WTF they’re talking about.

Bill “I’m-not-a-white-supremacist-but-you-gotta-admit-that-white-people-are-supreme” Maher even said singing it was like “segregation”

Is it, though?

A thread.
We won’t start by talking about how the National Anthem was written by Francis Scott Key—a slave owner who started the American Colonization Society to get FREE black Americans achieve a goal white people often email me about -

Go back to Africa
We don’t even have to talk about the fact that the Star Spangled Banner is racist itself…

I’m assuming you can read

The 16th Street Bombing was 58 years ago.

But just like MOST things, most of us really know the real story:

A thread
The first thing a lot of people think is that this surprise attack "shook the city" and the world.

Not really.

While it was a despicable act, for people in Birmingham, it wasn't that much of a surprise. White supremacist terrorists did this ALL the time in Birmingham.
There's even a part of the city called Dynamite Hill because, during the Civil Rights Era,* more than 50 homes in the city were bombed by white supremacists.

Sixteenth Street Baptist Church isn't in Dynamite Hill.

*Also, when I talk about the Civil Rights Era...

This is a good point.

When anti-vaxxers cite their freedoms, constitutional rights, and–the whitest thing of all–the Founding Fathers to rail against vaccine mandates, do they know what they're talking about?

What if I told you this happens EXACTLY every 100 years?

A thread.
In 1706, the members of a Boston church gave the pastor Cotton Mather a gift bag with a very special present--an enslaved Black man named Onesimus.

( That's how they collected tithes and offerings, but times were very different back then)

But Mather couldn't STAND Onesimus
Some of it was because Onesimus laughed his ass off when Mather tried to convince him that God was white. Mather said Onesimus was "wicked" because he was too smart. Plus, Onesimus tried to tell Mather something that was unbelievable.

In Africa, they had cured smallpox. Image
