Is Tim Scott right?

Do Democrats want to defund the police?

Let’s see.

A (short) thread
What Tim Scott is talking about is the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act’s provision that ties the money police get from the federal govt. In the Democrats plan, if local & state agencies didn’t ban chokeholds, no-knock warrants & report misconduct, they wouldn’t get $
Plus, they’d have to demilitarize, get training & stop shooting Black people in the face.

Do you know how many Black people cops shoot in the face???

Seriously, do you know? Because I don’t. Tim Scott doesn’t. No one does!
That’s because cops don’t have to report it.
You gotta remember, police initially said Breonna Taylor wasn’t injured.
When officer Michael Slager killed Walter Scott in 2015, they said he was shot during a struggle because they had no idea that a passerby had the entire thing on video
But one brave US Senator decided he was going to put a stop to this. He was astounded to discover that cops don’t have to report police shootings, so he came up with a plan.

He BEGGED Republicans to create a FBI database of every shot fired by an officer including:
The Walter Scott Notification Act wasn’t much, but with it, we could actually PROVE that cops disproportionately use force against Black people.

But Republicans refused.

In 2016, the Sen. tried again. Republicans refused. They refused in ‘17. Then in 2018, something happened
Congress passed the First Step Act. Contrary to popular belief, this was simply a Democratic policy passed under Obama. But the GOP had previously refused to make it retroactive because it meant Black people would get out of prison. The Sen. Saw his chance.
So he slipped the Walter Scott Notification Act into the First Step Act. Just before it passed, they removed the provision.

So the Senator gave up.

One of the provisions of the WSNA was that agencies would lose money if they didn’t report police use of force.
And he didn’t just want to punish police departments, he wanted to make the information public and subject to an independent review!
But after the George Floyd murder, he decided to try it again. He was gonna do it this time.

I actually talked to him about it! He was so excited, he let a roomful of policy experts walk me through his plan to reduce funding if police departments didn’t comply.
So this is where the Democrats got this idea from—this ONE DUDE who had been trying to get this done for six years.

The GOP still refused and that’s why the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act failed.

But Tim Scott was right. Technically, this was a plan to defund the Police
And it would have worked if Tim Scott hadn’t fooled this one senator’s plan to defund the police.

Now, I bet you’re wondering who was this crazy senator who’s been trying to defund the police for six years? Who created the Walter Scott Notification Act?
Who is this guy who created this wild defunding idea that he thought would hold police accountable until Tim Scott stepped in?

Well, his name is Tim Scott.
That’s right. If Tim Scott considers tying federal funds to police accountability rules is the same as Defunding the Police, the Tim Scott is responsible for the ORIGINAL Defund the Police legislation

So it’s not wrong to call Tim Scott a sellout
Because he actually sold out Tim Scott

1/2 Imagine you lived in house with 9 other people & only 6 beds

1 person has a bed GUARANTEED every night (not you)

2 people are permanently banned from the beds (not you)

The other 7 have monthly fights for the right to sleep in the 5 remaining beds…

Now answer this:
1. To the man with NO BED, the person with “privilege” is the one who:
2. Every night 4 people don’t have bed:

A. the 2 who are permanently banned from the beds, and..

B. The 2 who lost the monthly fight for a bed.

These 2 groups are:

Here’s the thing about what @DezBryant said. It’s not just that Des Bryant is wrong, it’s clear that he’s saying something that white people told him to say.

A thread.
Even the term “bring awareness” proves Dez doesn’t know what he’s talking about
because the narrative surrounding Kaepernick has been so twisted by media outlets that MOST people truly believe Kaepernick wanted to bring social Justice & politics to the biggest platform in sports
That’s not actually what happened.

On August 14, 2016, Kaepernick didn’t stand for the national anthem. It was a personal choice. He didn’t issue a statement or talk about it, for a very good reason:

No one noticed.

August 20, 2016, he did the same thing.

No one noticed.

You can't really be angry about this picture without getting angry about the backstory.

The reason Haiti has refugees is because of the predicament it is in is BECAUSE of the U.S. policy of white supremacy.

A thread.
I have told the story of the Haitian revolution before, but all you need to know is that when enslaved people in Haiti became the first nation in the history of the world to take control of their country, white people were SHOOK.

You gotta remember, the distance from Haiti to the US is about the same distance from Charleston to NY - The 2 richest cities in the US

But they couldn't fuck with Haiti's wealth (Remember, before the Revolution, America was a colony. After the revolution, the US was broke AF)

People really just say shit without actually knowing WTF they’re talking about.

Bill “I’m-not-a-white-supremacist-but-you-gotta-admit-that-white-people-are-supreme” Maher even said singing it was like “segregation”

Is it, though?

A thread.
We won’t start by talking about how the National Anthem was written by Francis Scott Key—a slave owner who started the American Colonization Society to get FREE black Americans achieve a goal white people often email me about -

We don’t even have to talk about the fact that the Star Spangled Banner is racist itself…

The 16th Street Bombing was 58 years ago.

But just like MOST things, most of us really know the real story:

A thread
The first thing a lot of people think is that this surprise attack "shook the city" and the world.

Not really.

While it was a despicable act, for people in Birmingham, it wasn't that much of a surprise. White supremacist terrorists did this ALL the time in Birmingham.
There's even a part of the city called Dynamite Hill because, during the Civil Rights Era,* more than 50 homes in the city were bombed by white supremacists.

Sixteenth Street Baptist Church isn't in Dynamite Hill.

*Also, when I talk about the Civil Rights Era...
