At 3.50pm on December 6, 2012, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi sat in an office at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations @DCI_Kenya headquarters along Kiambu road as he tried to convince detectives to lift a freeze on one of his bank accounts. - @NationAfrica
Mr Linturi was trying to explain to DCI officers how Sh8.6M suspected to have been stolen from the Makutano Branch of @Coopbankenya in Meru County found its way into his bank account after being deposited by one of the lender’s employees.
In total, Sh13.5M was stolen from Cooperative Bank on November 2, 2012 and was in Kenyan, US, Canadian, and British currency.

Persons charged with corruption and other economic crimes will be locked out of next year’s polls if MPs approve proposed changes to the laws on elections, leadership and integrity. - @BD_Africa
Aspirants with active court cases will be barred from running for the position of President, Member of Parliament, or Member of the County Assembly (MCA) under the proposed amendments to the Elections Act and the Leadership and Integrity Act.
A person is not qualified for nomination as a presidential candidate if the person has been formally charged in a court of law for an offence related to corruption or economic crimes and the case has not been finalised. - the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

ICYMI: High Court judge Justice James Makau has halted the plan by @KRACare to increase excise duty on at least 31 goods, including beer, fuel, bottled water and juice, from October 1 pending determination of a suit opposing the taxes. - @BD_Africa
Justice James Makau Monday issued a temporary freeze on the KRA’s plan, saying that the case challenging the new taxes has a likelihood of success.
Two people had petitioned the court to stop the impending decision by the taxman to increase excise duty on the products by 4.97 percent in line with average annual inflation.

The State-controlled utility firms suffer from annual system losses, with an average of 47% of the water put into their distribution network not billed due to leakages, metering inaccuracies and theft.
.@SafaricomPLC is offering technology to track water use, leakages, theft and remote reading of meters in exchange for a share of the recovered revenues.
