COVID replaced Trump in the liberal mind as a new, totalizing subject of obsession

Trump destroyed the work of many liberal artists, their once-interesting stuff became nothing more than vapid politicized crap

Now instead of anti-Trump crap, their art is COVID-paranoiac crap
I used to be a massive fan of The National, I've seen them live at least half a dozen times

They used to always put on a show

But in the aftermath of Trump's election, their lead singer came out in DC trashed out of his mind, ranting about SALLY YATES and Rob Portman
Authors have had the same problem

Don Winslow wrote some great novels about drug war

Then his brain got warped on Trump and his latest one is completely vacuous
Stephen Colbert was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny in his Daily Show/Colbert Report days

Dude suffered literal trauma when Trump was elected, hasn't recovered, and this crap is the result

Time for Republican voters in CA to move

Lots of better states out there
There are something like 8 million of you

You’ll be happier in a state where you aren’t surrounded by pompous insane hypochondriacs
Better places?

Texas, Idaho, Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia (among others)

If you are saying that we need to "protect the vaccinated" then you are saying the vaccine doesn't protect them
Strange how no one ever talks about protecting the naturally immune
And of course disclaimer: if you do not currently have antibodies to COVID, you should probably get vaccinated!

Funny how it's the rhetoric of "responsible public health officials" that ends up being antivax

One of the biggest “fallacies” about debate/argument is that being able to identify logical fallacies by name is even remotely important
Arguments are pretty simple

There’s your overarching claim

There’s your warrants (reasoning/explanation)

And there’s your evidence (if needed)
You don’t need to know the “Texas Sharpshooter” to know that an argument isn’t persuasive and to be able to explain why

It turns out the case for staying in Afghanistan was “we conducted this war so incompetently that despite having been in the country for twenty years, our leaving will lead to complete collapse and billions in American war material falling into the hands of the Taliban.”
Oddly enough DOD and State couldn’t admit to that
The closest analogue I can think of is Chernobyl

“Hey sorry yeah we screwed up BIG time but we really do need to stay for a bit to plug up the radiation leaks as much as possible.”

I feel like our side really hasn't gotten to the heart of the debate about the infrastructure bill

AOC and Joe Manchin are playing chicken with each other

AOC wants the House's crazy reconciliation bill to pass with 50 Dem Senators, and Manchin/Sinema are roadblocks
If the price of a Manchin NO on the House reconciliation bill is 19 Republicans voting YES on the Senate infrastructure bill - is that actually a bad deal?

It would be really nice if we won those Georgia Senate seats btw
And hey - maybe this infrastructure bill is terrible, I'm still reading up on the details

But McConnell isn't a fool, nor is he a huge fan of spending money on Democrat priorities, and he's certainly not a sucker for bipartisanship

There's more going on here

Someone tell this guy about what the Japanese did in Nanking
In 1945 Japan wasn't even trying to win WWII

They were only trying to kill as many Americans as possible to force us to negotiate

We still haven't run out of all the Purple Hearts minted in anticipation of some 1 million American servicemen deaths invading Japan's home islands
And if you think the only moral course for the United States was to come to terms with Japan's brutal military dictatorship, say so
