Trend of ex intel, security, spy agency officers who go on to work as execs, advisors & investors in surveillance, intelligence AI, facial recognition companies that sell to countries like the UAE or authoritarian states - needs more coverage & regulation
When it comes to surveillance technology it's the wild west - it's completely unregulated and such a dangerous intersection of authoritarian and financial interests

As @brigittebureau notes in Canada a company such as AWZ Ventures doesn't need an export permit to sell cybersecurity tech

Update on Unity Aluminum in KY (formerly Braidy Industries) that did a deal w/Oleg Deripaska's Rusal & received $15 million from the state of KY

After missing many financing/production goals a KY senator is pushing for Unity to repay $15mil, HT D. Delany

In March there was a report that Deripaska’s Rusal had suspended investments in Unity Aluminum in Kentucky after investing $65 million of projected $200 million

This is a strange deal Unity Aluminum did in 2020 HT D. Delany

In 2018 then-Braidy Industries acquired Veloxint for $29 million and invested another $21mil in them

In 2020 Unity Aluminum sold Veloxint to hedge fund Clearbrook Global for approx $1 mil🤔
