I've obtained a copy of the NRA slat of officers the nominating committee is going to put forth at tomorrow's board meeting. The document is apparently being sent to board members tonight even though it was created in executive session and won't be discussed until the meeting.
It should be slate, not slat. I feel like I've been making a lot of typos on here lately. I still wish there was an edit button.
The NRA members meeting will begin at 9am today. The board meeting is scheduled for 2pm.
There are no pictures or video allowed at the NRA members meeting today. That's a new policy since 2019 where there was a raucous debate that featured some members calling for the resignation of Wayne LaPierre and other executives.

44 of the NRA's 76 board members voted for Wayne LaPierre to remain Executive Vice President. 2 Voted for former board member Rocky Marshall. 3 abstained. The other 27 didn't vote, likely because they didn't attend the meeting at all. thereload.com/wayne-lapierre…
Dissident board member Philip Journey nominated Marshall as a kind of protest action against the direction of the organization which is facing down a corruption suit in New York that could lead to its dissolution. thereload.com/wayne-lapierre…
The NRA is not allowing me inside the board meeting since it is closed to press. Only staff and those with active memberships are allowed inside. I covered the last board meeting despite not having an active membership but there may have been some sort of miscommunication.
Either way, I'll be waiting outside the meeting and expect to be told of everything substantial that takes place inside. So, no worries there.
Here's the slate of NRA executives that will be put up for a vote during the board meeting. There is only one option being presented for each position, but there may be others put up for nomination during the meeting.
NRA first vice president Charles Cotton opened the members' meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina by praising Wayne LaPierre and decrying the accusations against him and the NRA. He says opponents are lying about the group. Says the best lies are built on a smidgen of truth.
CEO Wayne LaPierre is now speaking. Says seeing someone wearing an NRA hat is like seeing the American flag. He says the group has accomplished extraordinary things and the NRA is under attack like the country is under attack.
"Our rock-solid defense of the Second Amendment is what gives every other amendment a fighting chance." - LaPierre.
Nobody on The Washington Post's editorial board noticed the irony of putting these two paragraphs back-to-back? Does on the opinion side of D.C.'s biggest paper even know what the gun laws there are? washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/…
WaPo's editorial board says solution to the accidental shooting it highlights is to pass an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and a safe storage law. But, the place it happened ALREADEY HAS all of those laws.
The media is much more concerned about David Chipman's feelings than they are about whether or not he tried to ruin a black ATF agent's career over racial animus. Pretty remarkable to watch every major outlet just pretend those allegations never happened. thereload.com/black-atf-agen…
Sure seems like most members of the media simply don't care if these allegations are true or not. DOJ has confirmed parts of the black agent's story. They won't release the investigation Chipman initiated, though.
Is anyone even wiling to pretend this is how coverage would've unfolded if Chipman was a Trump or Bush nominee? It's laughable.
The NRA members' meeting and board meeting will take place on October 2nd in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Sheraton & Le Meridien. It will be the latest opportunity for members and directors to provide input on the group's direction and legal strategy. thereload.com/nra-reschedule…
The meetings come as New York's Attorney General ramps up her legal attack on the organization with a new 187-page filing that details dozens of specific claims of corruption and mismanagement. She asking for the NRA to be shut down. thereload.com/nra-reschedule…
