I sometimes think we all in one way or the other search for true source of happiness or meaning of happiness and for that matter, we all have several different ideas on what that means.
Recently, while waiting for my lunch at one restaurant at Village mall, I over heard a conversation of the guys seated next to me. One of them said, I have gotten lots of money from where, I don't know but I'm not happy he adds!
Of course lack of money can also be a source of happiness like we all know. I also know many people meet me and are like if I were you, I would be having this and that. Nice watch, latest car, top suits, designer this and that. They add, be happy!
It's because we don't often write about our responsibilities reason people out there assume, one has lots of money doing nothing. A guy like me has to pay home bills, school fees, motocross costs etc and that's home.
Lots of black tax we don't often talk about, some necessary and others not. You have salaries, suppliers to pay, taxes to pay, cost of maintaining a business especially during these times are crazy, you Don't have that privilege of idle cash.
And am happy through all these by God's grace.
I have clearly told whoever wants to know that I'm simply at a take off stage in terms of business( ready to take on bigger challenges in business terms) and to reach that stage, it's taken me 25 years of hustling.
Time has taught me a lots and one of those things I have learnt is that true joy comes a lot easier if you find your purpose in life.
Discovering your purpose isn't seen in waking up to laughing or being happy everyday.
My wife keeps saying eh Amos, you enjoy dealing with challenges.
Most times, our purpose in life is dealing with challenges and joy comes from from saying
Yes, I failed but at least I tried.
Some times it will be yes, I conquered that it.
I have written on Social media before: I once finished a whole year without affording meat when I was starting out.
I wore my Sunday best then, gate crushed a wedding at Sharing hall Nsambya where I used to play badminton and table tennis.
I took on the back bench and sat in the middle and within a short time, other kids from Kamwanyi slum joined me and we filled the table. One of the organisers turned up and chased everyone on my left and right and left me in my position.
I think it's because I looked like the bride, she was from the western part of Uganda. I am sure the organiser thought I was a long lost uncle.
Poverty makes a young person look old some times. I was left alone.
During the food time I was served lots of food and sizeable meat portion. After eating, my mission was done. I left sharing hall but along the way, I asked God, God why did you make me so poor? I remember tears flowing from eyes uncontrollably for a long time.
During that walk, I told myself, I will work hard and if you had met me asked about my dreams. I would have said, I want to work hard to afford a lot of meat. It was one of my many turning points in the right direction. You will have to experience many turning points in your life
Anyways, I started improving in life and there I could afford the meat, the less I desired it until now. At one point I asked myself, why work hard if I'm loosing the desire of things I thought could bring happiness meat inclusive. I started appreciating the simple things more.
I started understanding that buying a new shirt is good but won't necessary bring one happiness, buying a new pair shoes is good but won't really bring happiness. The less you attach happiness to things the better. Sometimes, you will feel happy not buying things you can afford.
Now things that make me happy are like jogging from home this morning for example towards office make me happy, when I accomplish a project that creates opportunities for others, I feel happy, maintaining things around me makes happy.
Look at my current car below, 20 years old and I have driven it for 13 years now. My son says everyone time dad does stuff to his car, he feels like he has bought a new car.
Let's hear your experience about happiness!

THREAD ALERT:
ON UGANDA'S DISPLAY AT THE DUBAI EXPO.
Eh, I got and am still getting lots of messages about our display in Dubai at the expo. Some people thinking I'm responsible for that which isn't true.
My reading is that Ugandans want to see the country shine. LEADERS MUST LISTEN.
Dubai has invested about usd 7bn in this particular expo and that shows how important it is for them. Dubai plays ball at a very different level and it's admirable.
Dubai guys understand marketing and position.
Dubai whose wealth was transported on donkeys in the 1980s boosts of 3 main sectors pushing them higher and higher. The 3 sectors are tourism( the last time I read, every 5th building is a hotel), real estate and finance.
There was a guy who said "Ffe tubonabona bano banonya kubonabona" while we rode but with a bottle of beer in the hand, near a big group of men playing cards. With loud music near the lake, Probably with 12 kids somewhere.
But there was Aikomo Eddy(in the photo above) whose contact is 0751730181 and 0781372960, who runs a Jet Ski water sport. Immediately we docked in Kalangala, he was like eh wekesa, I follow you on Social media.
After the 5 to 6 hours of cycling, I went to Brovad sands to relax, and I observed him work hard. I didn't see him rest. After one point, he jumped off the ski and offered me a ride. We got talking.
Let me say something here: When we showcase Uganda, the business opportunities come direct to the population. When Uganda borrows loans, its a few people that see that money.
When a tourist for example arrives at Entebbe, she pays USD 50 for a visa, planes pay landing fees to CAA which employs Ugandans.
The tourist is picked up in a car which has a mechanic, spare part supplier, also goes to fueling station and all these are opportunities
Today, I was reflecting back on the 48years of my life, I have had opportunities of experiencing extreme poverty and relative wealth, great health and sometimes sickness, Trusted God most times, doubted the Creator a few times.
Here are some of the valuable lessons I have learned so far in life:
1- We all have a spiritual bit whether we like it or not, know it or not. We all have trust in something. Of course I haven't been perfect but the creator God has come through for me always . Given me wisdom on many occasion, seen His protection, given me favour before human...
Recently parliament discussed a new levy of USD 10 on each ticket sold out of Uganda to support tourism.
Before this discussion at Parliament, every flight ticket sold in Uganda had a levy of usd 57.7 dollars meant to go to @URAuganda , 10 dollars to security at the airport and USD 40 dollars handling fee...
The charge in Kenya is USD 50, what that means is that on a ticket between Nairobi and Entebbe, USD 107 are taxes. The airlines start calculating their costs from USD 107. Now they will start at USD 117.
But anyways, part 2 is only interesting if you have read part 1 which I tweeted last week and it's for learning purposes for the aspiring entrepreneurs who follow me on here.
I am a strong believer in the power of saving, power of investing savings , power of marketing and hardwork.
Generally speaking, I am the vision guy not necessarily a good implementor of my ideas.
Like I said in part 1, entrepreneurs don't always know the end from the start, but as you implement your faint vision, things start becoming even more clearer through the trials and challenges and sometimes the opportunities.
