1/ A continuation of the open metaverse discussions going on.
Thread focus: This is going to be some Ready Player One shit.
2/ An open metaverse isn’t a given and it’s probably not even the most likely outcome.
As we speak, an institution with twice the market cap of Ethereum has 50K highly paid engineers working around the clock to ensure it doesn’t become a reality.
3/ Zuck has publicly stated on multiple occasions that Facebook’s “overarching goal” is to “bring the metaverse to life”.
And they have laid out a crystal clear plan for how they will do it.
4/ A metaverse needs both a backend and a frontend and Facebook’s primary objective is to control both.
Their backend will be a private blockchain that they are developing called Diem.
5/ They use all the crypto buzzwords such as “decentralized” to describe Diem but is there a single living human who actually believes that?
6/ After all, Zuck did release a letter he wrote titled “A Privacy-Focused Vision for Social Networking” while simultaneously lowering WhatsApp’s encryption standards prompting the WhatsApp CEO to quit.
Don’t listen to what people say watch what they do.
7/ Facebook’s metaverse frontend isn’t a whole lot better. It’s called Horizon. Watch this video and ask yourself if you would like to spend half of your life in there because right now that’s the most likely outcome.
8/ Facebook harnesses a tremendous amount of influence over 3B+ people across multiple platforms and they will leverage it to herd us into their very own private metaverse where they will effectively be gods.
9/ I realize that this has been pretty doom and gloom so far, but I think it’s important to acknowledge what we are up against. Facebook is merely one of many institutions that stand to lose if the open metaverse becomes a reality so don't expect them to go down without a fight.
10/ But there is hope! This is an incredibly special moment in time where we have the opportunity to come together and lead humanity toward a future brighter than anything we could ever imagine.
11/ This story is still being written and every single one of us has the opportunity to pick up the torch and make the world a little brighter by doing our part. You may not realize it but by simply having this conversation we are moving the ball forward.
12/ By just setting up a MetaMask and doing a swap on Uniswap or setting your pfp to an ape or staking, we are casting our vote for the metaverse backend that we believe in.
13/ There may only be a couple hundred thousand of us now, but if we keep building, educating, and spreading our ethos, one day we will wake up and there will be hundreds of millions of us. And then billions.
14/ It’s less clear what our metaverse’s frontend will be and we may end up having many clients. @decentraland, @cryptovoxels, and @oncyber_io are all incredible experiments. What’s important is that we have choice and that our identity and NFTs can move fluidly between them.
15/ It is our birthright as humans to have sovereignty over our identities and how we express ourselves. And in a digital age where our wallets are our identities and our NFTs are how we express ourselves, the fight for an open metaverse is not one that we can afford to lose.
16/ I encourage others to copy-paste this format or RT to help keep the conversation going.

Turns out these questions aren’t as straightforward as you might think and it’s important that we come together as a community to answer them over the coming years.
Thread👇
The recent rediscovery of the 2015 Terra Nullius contract raised some thought-provoking questions and I quickly realized that the conversations going on had implications that transcended any single project.
I’m writing this thread in an attempt to open up these conversations to the NFT space as a whole and I’ll use the Terra Nullius project as a case study.
There seems to be a lot of confusion around the just dug up 2015 Terra Nullius project.
Thread to hopefully helps clear things up👇
“Only the pieces minted in 2015 are 2015 NFTs. Everything minted in 2021 is worthless.”
This one is totally false. Almost all MoonCats were minted earlier this year and they have a floor of 1Ξ. If an NFT is minted at any point in time on a 2015 contract it’s still a 2015 NFT.
“You can mint the same message twice so these aren’t non-fungible.”
Also false. It is true that you can mint the same message multiple times but each message still has a unique id. But even if this weren't true, trading card projects like Curio Cards have multiples.
The idea behind Terra Nullius is that you can “claim your spot” on the Ethereum blockchain by uploading a message of your choosing. A post was made on Reddit describing the project 6 years ago.
I just want to apologize to the Etheria community for what I may have just caused. My post last night brought the Etheria v1.1 and v1.2 issue to a boiling point and clearly got to the original developer. However, I still stand by everything that I said.
The developer is making it really easy for me to get my point across. He just put a bounty out for doxxing people in the Etheria v1.1 community which really crossed a line and literally threatens their physical safety. There is no room for this type of conduct in the NFT space.
It might not be today and it might not be tomorrow but that kind of behavior eventually catches up to people. The atomic swap NFT DEXs are coming whether we like it or not. All of these NFTs live on immutable distributed ledgers.
