For #TakeoverThursday this week, we will be hearing from In2science mentor, @AulieTsee!

Aurelie is a PhD candidate who is currently wrapping up her thesis @PAM_latrobe @PetrovskiLab πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“

Follow along as Aurelie shares her journey in STEM! 🌟
@LTUresearchers
Hi, I’m @AulieTsee and my journey in STEM started because of my love for food πŸ₯¦πŸ…

In high school, I studied food science and chemistry as I was curious about how all the delicious foods we eat are digested and absorbed into the body, and the science behind it all! πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ Image of Aurelie at high school chopping capsicum as part of
The cooking practicals exams were quite stressful, I felt like I was in MasterChef (πŸ‘©β€πŸ³), but I absolutely loved the theory behind food science so in 2013 I started a Bachelor in Human Nutrition @latrobe πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“πŸ”– @LTUnutrition Image one is a photo of the La Trobe Bundoora campus in AutuImage two is a collage of photos of food dishes Aurelie has
In the 2nd year of my degree, I chose a subject called Microbiology! This is the biology of very small organisms that we need a microscope to see πŸ¦ πŸ”¬πŸ§«

I never thought that I would enjoy microbiology. I am glad I tried something new and discovered what I am passionate about πŸ₯³ Image one is of agar plates which are used in microbiology tImage two is a set up of Aurelies microbiology lab bench wit
I loved learning how microorganisms so I did Honours in Microbiology @PetrovskiLab where I made great friends (@brittmassey_, @Vaheesan_R & @stephh_lynch). My research was investigating how antibiotic-resistant plasmids evolve through acquiring other mobile genetic elements 🧬 Image one is of Aurelie sitting at her lab bench in a white Image two is a picture of Aurelies lab members in the Petrov
After Honours, I was awarded a PhD scholarship to research plasmids and how they contribute to the spread of antimicrobial resistance!

I have learned that growing as a scientist involves;
- self-confidence
- critical thinking
- growing as a person (outside of science) Cartoon figure of Aurelie’s PhD plan and goal. This image
As I wrap up my thesis and look back, I am grateful for the opportunities and I have definitely enjoyed the journey πŸ₯³πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“

I am excited for a new chapter working on AMR and solving new problems with other scientists. πŸ§«πŸ§¬πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬

🌟We are excited to roll out #TakeoverThursday featuring our amazing mentors each week! 🌟

Today we have @LizzieLieschke, a PhD researcher at @WEHI_research, and @UniMelb showing us a day in the life of a cancer researcher! πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ

Watch the video here: bit.ly/3ohlWtl πŸ‘ˆ
Lizzie starts her day @WEHI_research checking emails, creating a to-list, and planning her experiments so they all fit in the day.
Lizzie is interested in cancer cells and how they respond to cancer treatment, let's follow along to learn more! Picture of the WEHI building
To conduct her research, @LizzieLieschke uses cancer cell lines pictured here, that act as a model for human cancer in the lab.

Lizzie starts in the lab by checking her cells and providing them with extra nutrients to grow, so they can be used for future experiments. Picture of cancer cells down the microscope
