Recent events deserve a thread about #Dogecoin's blockchain and what it means. In December 2013, I wanted to start mining cryptocurrencies. I tried to ask questions on r/bitcoin, and let's say I was not treated very nicely. Crypto was already very elitist, back then. 1/n

That really bothered me. I found this other two-day old new crypto with a dog in its logo. I looked at my dog sleeping at my feet, told about it to my partner, and we decided to mine Doge instead. 2/n

That's how it started. And to my surprise, r/dogecoin was very welcoming, and insane. I thought, back then, that I would have mined Dogecoin and then converted it into Litecoin or Bitcoin. But I never did. 3/n

Because something happened: the community. We started tipping from the beginning. While others were closed in their egoism, We started doing crazy stuff. We helped the Jamaican bobsled team go to Sochi. We helped raise 40M Doge to help Kenya's water crisis! The Nascar car! 4/n

So many that dedicated their time and intelligence to Dogecoin. @billym2k and Jackson. Our dear #Sporklin, @michilumin, u/patricklodder, @JRossNicoll, @langerhans. All the devs! On reddit, we had u/Fulvio55, u/silentshibe, and hundred others. How many we should mention! 5/n

This history is forever there, etched into Dogecoin's blockchain. This has real value, because #Dogecoin's is the only blockchain that has been populated in this way. 8 years of fun, insanity, victories and defeats, are now preserved into your computer with Dogecoin Core. 6/n

Nobody owns or controls this blockchain. It is not about anyone, and yet it is about all of us, together. And it is something that deserves respect and should not be used for your greed. If I have a bunch of people following this account it is because of #Dogecoin, period. 7/n

To close this thread: the dog that was sleeping at my feet when we decided to mine Dogecoin is still doing well and happy. He turned 12 a month ago, and he still likes to play for hours and hours everyday. In fact, I need to go out with him right now. Take care shibes! 8/8
