1/5 Hun Sen’s Proposed “Law” to determine single citizenship for #Cambodia’s leaders: Normally a law is intended to defend the public interest. The Hun Sen-inspired law targeting me and barring me from becoming prime minister is simply an act of meanness. #SamRainsy
2/5 Hun Sen made it clear that, as a reprisal against me, he wants to definitively block me from the premiership. This is not the first time. Remember the amendment to the law on political parties, which specifically pushed me to resign from the CNRP leadership in Feb 2017.
3/5 I did so to prevent my party from being dissolved (it got dissolved anyway in November the same year). The legal and the court systems are being perverted under the autocratic Hun Sen regime.
4/5 There is a clear comparison with the tailor-made law in Myanmar which prevents Aung San Suu Kyi from being president, as her sons are British citizens.
5/5 Under a dictatorship it's an honour to be prosecuted for political "crimes". Freedom fighters cannot expect less. #SamRainsy#Cambodia
2 The food situation is Cambodia becoming critical, especially among the poorest.
3 In the name of the Cambodian people of whom I have been an elected representative for 25 years, I call on the international community, notably the International Red Cross, to help the population of the country’s capital Phnom Penh.
1/13 The dissolution of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) by Hun Sen three years ago plunged Cambodia into an unprecedented crisis.
2/ The CNRP saw its 55 National Assembly deputies and 5,007 municipal councillors, including nearly 500 mayors, stripped of their functions. These were redistributed and, in some cases, resold to supporters of Hun Sen.
3/ The CNRP’s level of support in the 2013 national parliamentary elections may have been enough for it to gain power in the absence of the large-scale fraud which marred the exercise.
1/10 The leadership of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (#CNRP) and its millions of members and supporters extend warmest congratulations to the American people who, in massive numbers, have freely and democratically chosen their leaders at local, state and federal level.
2/ We have witnessed and admired how millions of Americans, in the largest turnout in over a century, have patiently participated in the long process.
3/ Democracy in the US is an inspiration to Cambodians all over the world. The CNRP extends most sincere congratulations to President-elect @JoeBiden and Vice President-elect @KamalaHarris.
1/4 On behalf of Cambodian democrats I would like to express my solidarity with Thai democrats who are protesting against the forced disappearance of Mr. Wanchalearm Satsaksit, abducted in Phnom Penh June 4.
2/4 This abduction, carried out in broad daylight, is an act of state terrorism in which Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen specializes and which has cost the lives of countless Cambodian democrats.
3/4 The abduction is a way for Hun Sen to thank the Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for preventing me, as the only Cambodian opposition leader at liberty, from returning to Cambodia via Thailand as planned on November 9, 2019.
1/5 To eliminate dangers associated with possible "false positive" results produced by any faulty serological test, I have proposed a two-step protocol for the issuing of immunity passports. @WHO#SamRainsy who.int/news-room/comm…
2/5 The first step involves a virological test to establish whether the applicant currently has COVID-19. A positive result means that no immunity passport would be granted to the infected person and the "false positive" issue would become irrelevant. @WHO#SamRainsy
3/5 If the candidate tests negative for COVID-19, they then proceed to the next stage, which is a serological test to establish the presence of antibodies. @WHO#SamRainsy
1/4 The abduction in Phnom Penh on June 4 of Thai political activist Wanchalearm Satsaksit bears the fingerprints of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who is an expert in such acts of state terrorism.
2/4 As leader of the Cambodian opposition, I have myself been the target of several attacks which have cost dozens of my colleagues and sympathizers their lives.
3/4 More recently, Hun Sen has publicly threatened to have me abducted while in exile abroad. I have informed the French police of Hun Sen’s criminal intentions. It’s possible that the French authorities have dissuaded the brutal dictator from carrying out his threat.
