Two key components in the economics of Superstar Teaching:

1) the art of teaching online
2) the business of distribution

Let's explore πŸ‘‡
1/ The Art of Teaching Online

Teaching on the Internet is a skill and like any skill, you can learn how to get better at it.

Internalize this: you can learn how to be a better teacher.
2/ The Business of Distribution

The 2nd part of the economics of Superstar Teaching is to leverage partnerships.

Partnerships for distribution shortcut the painstaking process of audience building.
One of the hardest parts about online course creation is building an audience.

Thankfully there are platforms solving for demand now:

β€’ Disco
β€’ Maven
β€’ Clickto
β€’ Nas Academy

You can hitch your wagon to these aggregators and get a big step up in distribution.
But you can think broader than course platforms

When I took my idea for Transformational Online Courses to On Deck, my first launch did $350K and had 150 students.

Other ways to leverage partnerships:

β€’ licensing deals
β€’ guest workshops
β€’ email list guest spots
β€’ guest content for another course
β€’ university partnerships (ala @MrScottMeyer)
This is something @RobbieCrab, @mariepoulin and I are thinking about with Course Creators Collective.

Curation of the best teachers.

If you have specific knowledge, and you learn the skills to teach it, we think you'll have a lot more opportunities to reach people at scale.
As @will_mannon put it beautifully, we're only at the start of the Superstar Teacher explosion

Just short of 1 year in and 10,000 downloads

Absolutely no chance I would've believed this a year ago

And now, it's one of the highest leverage things I do every week
In fact, I'd go so far as to recommend it to everyone

Who needs another podcast you might think?

That's actually besides the point...
I learn so much from every conversation

I've met some incredible thinkers and builders

And I'm sitting on a goldmine of wisdom from these fascinating people

I chatted to @RobinMWaite recently about:

// How to Position & Price Your Course //

Here is everything I learned πŸ‘‡
1/ Start with setting a goal 🎯

how much money do you want in 12 months from your course?

if you have multiple revenue streams (courses, consulting, info products), consider each separately

different buyers have different price sensitivities
2/ Figure out your capacity πŸ₯›

let's say your goal is $120,000

break down your total into monthly goals

then create scenarios for how to reach it:

$10,000 x 1 buyer

$1,000 x 10 buyers

$100 x 100 buyers

$10 x 1,000 buyers

Learning is hard, but teaching is harder.

I'm want to help you combat that. I’m convinced if you want to transform people through education, you have to make an identity change and connect with your Teacher Identity within ⬇️
This is what 'Course of Action' is about. My new course on how to effectively teach through the internet.

The aim: To help people identify how they can uniquely help others through coaching, speaking, writing, and making videos. Here's the info you need: bit.ly/3u1yBS6
In order to help others, you have to take action first. But before you take action, you have to know where you’re headed. So ask yourself this important question:

If you haven't caught up yet on my conversation with @CarolineGoyder, it's a must. She's an expert voice coach, author, and fellow course creator.

If you want to learn how to become the best expert speaker you can, then this is a conversation you'll want to take notes!
Caroline has worked with some of the biggest people, including news anchors, actors, CEO's and even a monarch.

After working as a voice coach for over a decade, her passion for ancient literature and these historical links became incorporated into the way she works today.
One of the most memorable talks she's done is her TEDX Talk: The Surprising Secret to Speaking with Confidence. It's been watched on youtube over 9 million times...check out the talk here it's truly incredible.

Everyone struggles with presenting

Especially course creators, so @RobbieCrab threw down a gauntlet to my students

~ Be a Performer and a Professor ~

Here's how:
In this 🧡 you'll learn:

1) Your role as a sherpa
2) The top mistake 1st timers make
3) The two personas
4) How to switch between them
5) Planning your course like a journey
6) Ideas for closing on a high
7) Lessons from pop culture

Let's get to it, shall we?
πŸ”° You Are The Sherpa

Your role as course creator is to be a sherpa

Take your students up the mountain, and back home safely

Some of your students may want to turn back

You need to inspire them to keep going

Creative thinking

In it's simplest form, there are only 2 steps to developing this skill:
1/ Observation πŸ‘€

β€’Β take online courses
β€’Β read books & articles
β€’Β observe & make notes about HOW people explain things

What notes should you take?

Note down new ways of showing a concept that appealed to you

Train your brain to look for this in everything you do.
2/ Practice πŸ›

If you really want to get good at it, you need to be writing

Writing is thinking in that it helps you clarify your thoughts

Set yourself the goal to write every day. This can be a journal.

Challenge yourself to explain new things you've learned each day.
