Should I go see Titane
I’m seeing it. There’s three other people here
My review: it sure was a movie
I will say this: the ending was a complete asspull and I actually thought people were going to boo
This movie has a dozen brilliant ideas but doesn’t know exactly what to do with all of them combined. The serial killer angle could have been entirely cut in service of the pure surrealism of the car stuff, which is actually an unfortunately minor part of the plot
Does the film want to be about fetishism, sexual violence, gender dysphoria, body dysphoria, adoption, homosocial living? It successfully mashes them all together as surreal story beats but it clearly has something more to say about each, which makes it a little disappointing
Especially when the last third of the film is a very earnest story about adoption, gender identity, and acceptance told in a not particularly surreal way until the last five minutes

the wave of revolt we are seeing right now is the latest ripple of china's declining growth numbers, which was the main thing that shielded poorer, commodity exporting countries from the worst of the 2008 crash.

MENA and other petrol dependent countries have been in this chaos for the last year and a half, but really began in 2015. Now it's becoming generalized.

There's an aspect of the Xinjiang nightmare that hasn't been explored a lot, and that's the party is using this to finally proletarianize the Uighur population.
Uighurs historically have been pastoralists, small scale farmers, or small restaurateurs in the cities. When they move out to eastern cities they have a bad reputation for being petty criminals and populating the urban underworlds (where this comes from I don't really know)
Here's a music video by Howie Lee (Han) that plays off this stereotype a bit
