Kwasi Kwarteng says he's "very resolute and clear" that the energy price cap stays in place. Also rules out Spring increase being brought forward from April to January, as demanded by some suppliers. #Marr
Kwarteng says there will be no green levy on gas bills in the next period of the energy price cap - but doesn't say what will happen after that...
Kwasi Kwarteng admits of the 5,000 HGV visas offered just "double digits" have been taken up - and blames it on global shortage of drivers.
Of course if you face shortages in eg Poland or Germany you can recruit drivers from next door EU countries w/o needing visas.
💡💡Andrew Marr: "Are you absolutely sure the lights will stay on this winter?"
Kwasi Kwarteng: "Yes, I am".

Shadow chief sec @bphillipsonMP scathing: “In the teeth of a crisis of its own making, the Govt has put its out of office on. The PM has gone on holiday, no one knows where the Chancellor is, and this morning we understand the Business Sec has entered the realms of fantasy."
Now shadow chancellor @RachelReevesMP weighs in: "If the Treasury isn't in talks with BEIS to help our vital industries during this Conservative government’s energy crisis, then why on Earth aren't they? What is the Chancellor actually doing?"
BREAKING: Shadow minister Andy McDonald quits the shadow cabinet - claiming he was asked to argue against a £15 an hour national minimum wage and statutory sick pay at the living wage.
.@AndyMcDonaldMP "After many months of a pandemic when we made commitments to stand by key workers, I cannot now look those same workers in the eye and tell them they are not worth a wage that is enough to live on, or that they don’t deserve security when they are ill."
McDonald one of few survivors of Corbyn era and some will say writing was on wall.
Already sidelined when 'future of work' was handed over to Angela Rayner.
He wrote Labour's employment green paper - which calls for minimum wage increase to £10. But clearly wanted more.
EXCL: Labour leader @Keir_Starmer opposes Boris Johnson's National Insurance hike to fund social care.
"We don't agree that is the appropriate way to do it. Do we accept we need more investment? Yes. Do we accept NI is the right way to do it? No." mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
Starmer tells me it's "inevitable" taxes will have to rise to help solve social care crisis.
Amid pressure to back hike to capital gains instead of NI he hints he might be prepared to accept over-65s shd contribute.
"We need a fair way to raise the money that is needed."
After summer tour round UK, Starmer tells me:
🌹hostility to Labour under Corbyn has gone
🌹public now "open to being persuaded" by party
🌹he has no plans to welcome Andy Burnham back to Westminster
🌹it's "not a problem" if Corbyn comes to conference mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
