Tim Cook, CEO of Apple gave a statement- "I do think there will be a day when people looking back will say Apple's greatest contribution to the world was healthcare."
A detailed thread🧵on why Apple Inc. has been trying to get into the healthcare industry?
Apple's been designing its products- whether it's a device or Software- around healthcare. Their motive is to make "healthcare more human".
They have assembled a bench already with a team of physicians and engineers to build products spiralling around the healthcare market.
Now a question emerges, exactly why is Apple- which is a leading consumer electronic company- unfolding and making an effort to be a MedTech as well?
One of the reasons for expanding and diversifying the product spectrum is the decline in sales of the iPhone and the visible stagnation of iPad revenue.
iPhone saw tremendous growth between 2008 to 2015 and the sales peaked in 2015 with 569 million units and the complimenting revenue was $231.2 million.
But since then it withstood the perpetual downfall of 14% from 2015 to 2020.
The revenue of the iPad has constantly remained between $20-30 billion.
The peak was formed in 2013 with a revenue of $31.9 billion and a sale of 97 million units. Sales have been declining since then, but they saw a sharp growth in sales due to pandemic.
Apart from that, Apple is not the world's smartphone market leader as it captures the 26.75% share worldwide in comparison to android with 72.44%. iPhone is responsible for 50% of Apple's revenue.
So Apple is attempting and striding into the new markets.
And the healthcare industry is providing a lot of room for the company to thrive as it is worth $3.5 trillion. A lot of Apple's rivals- Google, Amazon and Microsoft are already there in the same market.
You know about the Apple watch⌚ right ? 👀
It offers heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, ECG to detect the anomalies in heart rhythm, fall detection alert and integrated third-party wellness apps.
Apple's Health app and HealthKit-enabled apps help patients record their medical data and share it instantly with their health care providers and physicians.
They got healthcare providers and EHR vendors on board to assist their users with the health records on their iPhones.
It got an edge over its competitors as the Health App is pre-installed in iPhones
The iPhone and iPad devices are already providing their services in the hospitals with substantial visual performance and high-resolution Retina display while imaging examinations.
Not just that, patients can incorporate their lab results and medical history.
It also enables the staff to store the patient's data in the software with security as the devices come with Touch ID and hence only authorised users can access the database.
Also Apple's providing a user-friendly interface and it allows patients to comprehend more about their ailment.
Apart from all this, Apple's helping the provider, pharmaceuticals and medical appliance manufacturers to slash down their costs for large scale medical studies, with their available data.
Apple Heart Study, in cooperation with Stanford Medicine, is an example of that.
For their employees, Apple is inaugurating its immediate care group- AC wellness in Santa Clara County, California.
So on and all, Apple's working to acquire a substantial piece of the pie by modifying its developments. And Apple got a fair chance to flourish as they have a huge loyal consumer base with their faith.

Companies practice price discrimination to maximise their profits. Let’s dive deep into Price Discrimination in a thread 🧵
Price discrimination is a practice of charging different prices from different consumers to maximise their profits and capture the entire consumer surplus.
Consumer Surplus is the entire difference between what a consumer is willing to pay and what he actually paid. It’s the total benefit to the consumer when the price that he’s paying is way lesser than the one he’s willing to pay.
