TIL the current highest-grossing movie in China, which is also the biggest movie in the world by receipts & China's most expensive movie to date, is a CCP-backed patriotic war movie depicting a Chinese victory over American forces in the Korean war. military.com/off-duty/movie…
At ~29:40 in this interview with @MarkLGoldberg, the Director of the Center for China-US Cooperation at Joseph Korbell School of international studies university of Denver places this movie in the context of Taiwan invasion war drums & is alarmed. undispatch.com/how-china-make…
Suiseng Zhao on China's military right now: "They think they can win. They REALLY think they can win. If & when the supreme leader issues the order, they're ready to carry it out. I don't know if they're really ready, but they think they are. They can win the battle...
...they can destroy all the US aircraft carriers, even those based in Guam, in Japan, in South Korea. They talk about that... So the Chinese side now is so offensive. They used to be very defensive, but now they're proactive. The incentive structure has entirely changed."

This is wild. Everyone buys this product for the exact same off-label usage, it seems. Can anyone guess what it's for based on the mods the algo has suggested?
If you're going to run one of these in rain or snow, you've got to take measures. Standard practice based on Googling is to mod out one of the Suncast outdoor storage sheds for ventilation and exhaust.

There's a flip side to this in elite circles for every group (not just Hispanics): if an actual current, practicing member of the group who still keeps to all its problematic codes/norms tries to join the circle & speak, they're rejected in favor of the LARPer.
There is an elite neuroticism around "authenticity" that has to be seen to be believed. You're supposed to perform your elite socialization while simultaneously signaling your ethnic bona fides in approved ways, in order to be an "authentic" voice for your group of origin...
...because if you just keep on being "one of THOSE people," then you get a bunch of hostility (especially from the LARPers whose franchise you threaten) like, "Oh, look who thinks they're MORE authentic. Look at this person trying be more ethnic-than-thou. What a phony!"

I cannot believe this article. I am gobsmacked. Grandmaster Jay is an open, raging anti-semite who believes all kinds of insane stuff about Jews, yet not only is this information nowhere in the article, but they frame the NFAC like this:
A lot of dude's anti-semitic material has been taking down, but this is not hard to find, and anyone who has followed the NFAC for even 5 mins knows this.
This piece by @gcaw gets into a bit of that material, & in general is far better guide to this deeply insane, violent character than @teamtrace's irresponsible woke-washing of him. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…

Today I tested the new Costco generator I picked up a few weeks ago by running it for 30 mins, on the theory of “test it before you need it.” If you have a generator, now is the time to get fuel for it and make sure it’s good to go.
For the curious, I picked up this Firman because it’s tri-fuel, has a manual start option (in case the battery’s dead), has a 50A RV plug, & most importantly was in stock when I was in the market. costco.com/firman-7500w-r…
I also have a nice Honda one. The Honda generators are the best from a reliability & reputation standpoint, but you pay through the nose.

A quick thread on prepping for a doomsday scenario, like a war with China. The key to all of it is this: behave in the present in ways that will give you options in the future.

Finance people know: as volatility approaches infinity, so does the value of optionality.
Physical fitness? Should you find yourself in a fight-or-flight situation, or even just doing a lot of manual labor, that’s optionality.

Food? The more you have, the more optionality in terms of “stay in place or bug out.”

Weapons/ammo/goods? Options for use or barter.
Offline social network? Other people are the ultimate in optionality.

And of course, liquidity is optionality. But if you don’t know what will be liquid in the future, then diversify in the present (again, on the principle of options > *).

Me, a member of society: I have thoughts on this issue!

You: This is all just a game for you isn't it! Others actually have a real stake in this issue, my dude.

Me: Ah, my bad. I thought you were demanding something of me in some way. Glad that's not the case!
But seriously, how is it that anyone thinks telling people, "this is all just an abstraction or word games for you, & you have no real stake in it" is a proper thing to pair w/ a big ole plate of asks, like resources or behavior changes or completely reorganizing society?
At the heart of deliberative rhetoric is the appeal to mutual interest. Prefacing a list of demands with, "there is no mutual interest here, so STFU" is not the behavior of people who feel they're at a disadvantage & need buy-in from all the stakeholders.
