Hi all, this afternoon we are going to look at the role of the police in the juvenile justice system, including some of the challenges policing juveniles.
This video is a glimpse into the day of a @BoisePD
School Resource Officer. The School Resource Officer program is unique in that's it's value is for crimes prevented, as well as for crimes solved
Although a larger number than we should be comfortable with, it should be noted that the overall number of arrests among juveniles in 2019 was 70 percent less than what was measured in 1996
Police history is generally divided into three periods:
~the traditional or political period,
~the professional period,
~and the community-oriented period
James Q. Wilson’s Varieties of Police Behavior, an influential book on police styles stated that departmental style typically determines juvenile disposition and officer attitudes toward juveniles within individual police agencies.
A variety of factors influence an officer’s decision to arrest a juvenile, with subjective factors such as the race, the gender, and the appearance of the youth, and his or her attitude toward the officer
The relationship between citizens and the police is critical to the success of preventing and addressing crime; the police cannot solve the problem of crimes without cooperation and assistance from community residents
Sometimes referred to as problem solving, problem-oriented policing (#POP) attempts to identify and resolve underlying causes of problems rather than simply treat their symptoms.
Thank you to @CambridgePolice for sharing their Police-Based Juvenile Diversion program which demonstrates creating relationships to prevent delinquency prior to juvenile offenses.
In addition to state, county, and municipal criminal codes, a juvenile can be taken into custody for #statusoffenses, including curfew, truancy, and being a runaway.
Some youths have expressed a high level of unhappiness with the way they are treated by the police such as being unfairly harassed and receiving slow assistance when needed.
The @PhoenixPolice along with local educators and community leaders, received federal funds appropriated from Congress to @ATFPhoenix for the development and implementation of a school-based, gang prevention pilot program.
Good afternoon friends! Does anyone following volunteer regularly? I've been driving for @DuPageSeniors delivering meals, it's incredibly rewarding. I encourage anyone to volunteer
This afternoon we are going to build on last week's discussion of Social Process, looking at how crime is learned and a socialized part of our growth and development
We are back from campus, at the 'criminal justice from the kitchen' home office to discuss some social aspects of #JuvenileDelinquency, are we ready to get started?
