Time for day 2 of Bob's big list of #KubeCon sessions, and there are A LOT of good ones.
There are 2 sessions at 11am - First, for all you OSS data nerds, theres a great session from @Sophia_IV on some of the gotchas and best practices around analyzing OSS data and sharing it in an ethical way
Also at 11, is a presentation from @fuzzychef and @CathPaga and TAG Contributor Strategy on something important for every project! Turning contributors into maintainers (we seriously need more maintainers across the board :x)
At 11:55 There are 3 sessions - FIRST from @carolynvs an overview of why curl | bash is bad :P (ps it really is) and some alternatives to keep that sorta 1-liner BUT be safe about it :)
Also at 11:55 is a talk from @JuliaSimon14 about burnout. It's been a huge issue for many project maintainers =/ the more we talk about it and think about how we can address it the better
Last we have a talk from @TokunagaKohei and Tao Peng on a new method to DRASTICALLY increase the start up speed of containers by sort of lazy-loading the image itself. A big thing if you're spinning up thousands of pods across a large number of nodes.
At 1:30 is the Maintainer Circle - a discussion and space dedicated to tackling some of the difficult tasks of being a maintainer; things like leadership in the face of loss, burnout and more.
At 2:30 there are 3 and all are focused on upstream in one way or another :) First an overview of the k8s release shadow program from @Divya_Mohan02 and how you can get involved in the upstream k8s project!
Next is a deep dive on all things in K8s SIG Storage with @_msau42_ and @2000Xyang! If you're interested in learning more about how k8s storage works and where things are going, definitely go swing by.
Last one is for the students interested in getting into OSS - a panel discussion with @codefinger@coffeeartgirl@mritunjay394 and @_Anushkamittal there should be A LOT of good nuggets for new folks looking to start their career in OSS at this one :)
At 3:25 Theres a few good ones, first if you're interested with CNCF governance there's an AMA with the CNCF Governing Board with @pritianka@apbhatnagar and @arungupta
Then we have Registries after Dark with @jonjonsonjr and @hasheddan. There's A LOT more involved with them then just push/pulling images. If you can't make it, I highly recommend giving it a watch later. 👍
Last one for 3:25 we have an update on SIG Apps with @janet_kuo, @soltysh and @kenowens12 - there's been a lot of changes from the last year with some api promotion, controller changes and more!
At 4:30 there are FOUR - up first from @ruio and @GJTempleton is a session for the cluster operators and how you can increase your confidence in changes by automating and running the full conformance suite
We also have another session for the project maintainers from @karenhchu and @technosophos on growing (and retaining) your contributor base by improving the overall contributor experience for them!
Next is an intro to SIG CLI with @seank8s, @eddiezane and @KnVerey if you're interested in kubectl, kustomize and all the fun inner workings and interactions with kubectl go head over to this session.
Last one is a fun one, I've <3'ed eBPF going back to my research days and science DMZs and @lizrice is going to go over what makes it so awesome in Cloud Native Superpowers with eBPF at 4:30!
We're at the end of day here with two more - At 5:30 there is a deep dive into K8s conformance testing with @bobymcbobs and Stephen Heywood on the journey to ensure that all the api endpoints are covered. This helps EVERYONE that runs k8s.
Soo...not sure what happened but apparently my other tweet thread didn't continue, so picking up part 2 of #kubecon day 3.
Other one at 4:30 - Have you had a feature that you wanted to propose, then back off after looking at the process? Is all of it really needed? Well you can find why it might be from @bobcatwilson, Kirsten Garrison, and @AdamBKaplan at their panel!
Last time slot for the day and there are 3 - Are you at an end user company and looking to open source something? How do you make sure theres continued support for it? Find out more from @khblixt and Kareena Hirani on how they did it at intuit for argo
At 11am, there are 2 session. First from an update from @the_sttts, @jpbetz, Federico Bongiovanni, and Abu Kashem about some things going on in API Machinery - the big big thing is Server Side Apply \o/
Then, at 11am we have some wonderful k8s contributors, @theonlynabarun@maria_fibonacci and @puerco going over some of the upstream supply chain fun in sig-release.
