Late night concept sketches of the “infinity drawer” Image
Basic concept: object permanence. If I put something in a drawer and close it, I will never remember it again unless something else reminds me that it exists.

Metaphorically, I’m often accidentally dropping things in the drawer.
I might forget a responsibility at work, it falls into the drawer.

I will never ever remember that responsibility again because it’s fallen into the abyss of my infinity drawer.

It will live there indefinitely until someone or something reminds me to take it out again.
With ADHD, you often lose track of things you can’t see.

As if you lack object permanence.

The difference is: when you can’t see something, you don’t actually think it no longer exists.

You just don’t think anything about it at all. Ever again.

ADHD is disproportionately common among addicts.

Dopamine deficiency—especially when undiagnosed with ADHD—causes us to seek something to fill that void.

My 10 favorite ADHD tweets/threads of the week:
It's hard to argue with the story these statistics tell.

ADHDers are getting caught up in addiction, and not enough people in power are talking about it.

@petequily

More information on how dopamine deficiency relates to addiction, and how many fail to recognize how powerful that dynamic can be.

K is for Kryptonite

(ABCs of ADHD: a daily thread series for #ADHDAwarenessMonth)

🧵👇
People debate whether ADHD is a superpower.

It certainly gives you unique traits that can—in the right circumstances—give you strengths neurotypicals don't possess.

The problem is, we live in a society built on kryptonite.
With hyperfocus, you can get much more work done than most in a short amount of time.

But our world is built on schedules and deadlines.

Why do so many creators have ADHD?

The "creator economy" happens to be the perfect environment for ADHD brains to thrive.

It's an ideal situation.

🧵👇 Venn diagram illustration o...
People with ADHD are naturally motivated by things needed to succeed as a creator.

Most brains are motivated by: importance, rewards, and consequences.

ADHD brains are motivated by: interest, novelty, challenge, and urgency.
Many creators have ADHD and don't even know it.

Experts estimate 75-90% of adults with ADHD are undiagnosed, so these creators may think their brain is "a little weird" or they "just have family quirks" without knowing the truth.

Obsidian 101

There's a lot of excitement in note-taking apps and personal knowledge management, but many solutions are unapproachable to most people.

Here's a quick guide to get started with Obsidian for complete beginners.

🧵👇
Visit obsidian.md and click the "Get Obsidian" button.

Once you download and install, create a new vault (location doesn't matter for now).
Now let's get started creating your first note:

• cmd-n to create your note (or click the page icon)

• name it something like "Home" so it can be your starting place and press enter

Now you have your home note, but before we start typing, we need to talk about Markdown...

It can be scary to build in public.

You are afraid your ideas will be stolen, or that you will look foolish. You don’t realize it, but have let fear take control of the steering wheel.

Don’t be driven by your fear.

Here are 5 reasons you should be building in public.
🧵👇
1. Build trust

Because you share your failures, you show your audience that you are an open book and aren’t just trying to sell them.
2. Build your status

Because you share your process, people will associate your name with someone that builds products. When an expert in the field is needed, your name will be top of mind.

How I used audio transcription to create this essay on tackling big projects.

🧵👇

Start with your concept, perhaps based on something you've recently learned or heard discussed.

My concept was based on some ideas inspired by the excellent @NestedFolders podcast.

It can help to take a short walk in silence to bounce ideas around in your head a bit.
Once you have the concept, figure out your headline.

Attention spans are short, you have to grab their interest with a few words or they will not read.

Take @Nicolascole77's advice and focus on clarity, not cleverness.
