The Particularity of the Beloved’s ﷺ Ummah being Bestowed the Knowledge of the First and the Last, and the Opening of the Repositories of Knowledge upon Them | Excerpts from Imām Jalāl al Dīn al Suyūṭī’s al Khaṣāʾiṣ al Kubrā

They (i.e. the Ummah of the Prophet ﷺ) were bestowed chains of transmission (isnād), genealogy (ansāb), grammatical analysis (iʿrāb), and the authoring of books. And their scholars are like the prophets of the children of Isrāʾīl.

Mentioned in a ḥadīth beforehand:

“I (i.e. Mūsā ʿalayhi ‘s-salām) found in the tablets: ‘A ummah that are given the knowledge of the first and of the last…’* in the chapter on his mentioning ﷺ in the Tawrāt and the Injīl.

Abū Zurʿah narrated in his Tārīkh from Shafīyy b. Mātiʿ al Aṣbaḥī who said:…

…“All matters are opened to this ummah, even the repositories of ḥadīth.”

Abū ʿAlī al Jayyānī said: “Allāh ﷻ portioned for this ummah three things that were never bestowed upon those before them: transmission (isnād), genealogy (ansāb), grammatical analysis (iʿrāb)”

* Abū Nuʿaym narrated from Abū Hurayrah who said: “The Emissary of Allāh ﷺ said: ‘When the Tawrāt was sent down upon Mūsā and he read it, he found in it the mentioning of this ummah

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah of which they are the last ones [yet they are]

…the foremost; make it my ummah!’’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah who answers and are answered; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah…

…whose gospels (i.e. the Qurʾān) are in their chest and they recite it outwardly; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah who consumes the spoils of war (fayʾ); make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied:…

…‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah who makes charity secretly and are rewarded for that; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah whom if one of them…

…intents a good deed and does not do it, it is written for him one good deed, and if he does it, it is written for him ten good deeds; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah whom if one of them intents…

…a misdeed and does not do it, it is not written for him, and if he does it, it is written for him one misdeed; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad’

He said: ‘O Lord! I found in the tablets an ummah that are given the knowledge of the first and…

…of the last, who fights the generations of misguidance and the false Messiah, al Dajjāl; make it my ummah!’ He ﷻ replied: ‘That is the ummah of Aḥmad.’

He then said: ‘O Lord, make me amongst the ummah of Aḥmad!’

[Allāh ﷻ replied:] ‘I bestowed two traits [upon you]’…

…and He ﷻ said: «O Mūsā! I have [already] elevated you above all others by My messages and speech. So hold firmly to what I have given you and be grateful.» [7:144]

He replied: ‘I am content, my Lord!’”
