THREAD 'BARE' ANALYSIS!
How @nytimes maintains the "selective omission" criteria of journalism.
As @nytimes corres'dnt @Karan_Singhs and freelance "PhD Scholar" @BaruahBondita cover the Dholpur, Assam incident, we dissect the factually incorrect and... nytimes.com/2021/10/17/wor…
selectively targeted article.
First let's begin with the critical ingredients of any @nytimes work:
1. Keep a watch on all incidents that can hit the present dispensation.
2. Go with a pre conceived notion of the incident and its history.
3. Select conducive local stringers...
4. Never cover the government's version.
5. Fit the story according to the pre conceived notion.
6. Never issue rejoinders even if you make the most serious blunder.
Every @nytimes reporting in India is a copy book specimen of the above flow chart.
Facts on Dholpur ( Deliberately omitted in the @nytimes article)
1. The pre-historic Shiva Temple with a number of caves at Dholpur Hill under Siphajhar Revenue Circle in Darrang dist has been regarded as one of the oldest in the country. (ASI)
2. Encroachment around Dholpur...
... temple - The villagers had settled in that part of land back in early 1980s. They must have shifted to this place during the course of the Assam Agitation in 1983. Their number was not more than 2000.
3. According to the history, the areas of present Dholpur No. 1, No. 2...
And No 3 originally had settlers from Nepal till 1971 along with Indigenous Assamese people who were primarily in the business of dairy farming and were milkmen.
As per the 2001 census the population of Bengali Muslim settlers rose from 2000 in 1989 to 16,938 in 2001.
As the numbers of these immigrants grew, the lands of the erstwhile indigenous Assamese people were encroached unabated.
In 2017, the Brahma commission report categorically stated this issue of illegal encroachment of lands of the indigenous Assamese population by immigrants.
@nytimes however made no such efforts to even care for bringing out this crucial historical fact as a backdrop to the story...of course, they were making a story which they wanted to believe..
Coming to the Present Day :
Eviction drive went on from 20-23 Sept 2021.
The eviction was part of the Government's initiative to start an Agricultural project with the name of "Gorukhuti" an effort to give employment opportunities to the indigenous people and by making the govt land encroachment free (as advised by the Brahma commission)
The eviction on 20 Sep was largely free of incident ...So what changed on 23 Sep ...
The arrival of PFI and AAMSU leaders...and a deliberate effort to destabilise a planned and systematic eviction cum resettlement project.
Some illustrations of the "peaceful protests" as quoted by @nytimes
A group of protesters in 'red tshirts'
made fire blockades to prevent the security forces and charged on them with staffs, lathis and fire chargers.
The fire seen in the images were lit by the protesters..yes!
2500 protesters formed a "tactical bow" (see image No.1 previous tweet) formation to encircle a group of 30/40 policemen. 9 police personnel sustained grievous injuries( @nytimes wouldn't care to mention)
These protesters were acting on instructions from somewhere
PFI, AAMSU....
While violent incidents and loss of life (2 protesters lost their lives) is condemned in any form, it is important to understand the background and subtlety of every incident in a complex demographic outfit like India.
One has to dive deep into historical references as well..
In 1983, a violent incident led by the Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh took 19 indigenous Assamese lives on a similar issue.
There have been a massive demographic change in Assam which has perplexed the Indigenous Assamese population...but it has more to do with land and
Livelihood than with Religion.
The @nytimes article which speaks about NRC and CAA for over 60 pc of their text has deliberately omitted these subtle nuances...along with..details like,
1. In The aftermath of the incident the case was investigated by CID
2. Independent inquiry..
Ordered under Justice Aggarwal (Retd High Court judge)
3. Bijoy Baniya (infamous photographer) was arrested on 23 Sep 21 itself.
4. While one policeman is still in critical condition.
However, where the @nytimes reveals it's TRUE intent is where they claim 👇
It is difficult to comprehend how these publications get away each time by making such derogatory remarks on the sovereignty of a country..

Having spoken directly to the people who conducted the initial invesg into the "cold blooded murder" of Reuters Indian photographer, we waited painstakingly for @Reuters
to...
reuters.com/investigates/s…
Bring out their version of the so called "fact-finding" exercise that they were onto.
We were surprised to read this cunningly written invest report cum memoir that surreptitiously reads as a self eulogy for @Reuters rather than anything else...
Graphic!
Here are the facts and the glaring chinks in @Reuters armour: (trying to go as per the chronology of the Reuters)
1. The @Reuters claim in their report that Afghan officials and Indian govt officials claim that his body was mutilated while in Taliban custody..promptly

Evacuation of Afghan Nationals with Indian Visa is also being carried out as per plan.
No Indian National has been harmed or hurt so far..expect for few who were checked for documents today outside Kabul airport.
Indian consulate offc at Mazar and Kandahar were searched by Talibans..not the embassy in Kabul.
Embassy in Kabul is still functioning with local staff.
