So it turns out that, in a bid to hold on to power, Bolivian dictator Jeanine Añez paid Colombian mercenaries to kill her political opponent days before the 2020 election.
Añez's 1-yr rule was a reign of terror, establishing death squads that roamed the country looking for foreigners, leftists and human rights groups. Some were killed.
Añez made a point of publicly imprisoning journalists and anyone else daring to criticize her, as well as hospital staff who agreed to treat the bullet wounds of the civilians she ordered killed.
There are some incredible videos embedded in this article:
Western human rights groups like @HRW really showed their hand on Bolivia, even condemning the new (democratic) govt for granting an amnesty to all those detained or tortured by Añez. Their excuse was that maybe a few of her victims *did* commit crimes.
Añez's group also contacted American mercenaries in an attempt to organize a second coup to prevent democracy's rebirth.
Here's leaked audio from a conversation they had, courtesy of @KawsachunNews:
Anyone serious about building a revolutionary movement needs to be studying Bolivia and the Movement to Socialism (MAS).
A good but somewhat outdated book on this is "The Rise of Evo Morales and the MAS" by Sven Harten.
There have been some pretty poor choices for the Sakharov Prize over the years, including Aung San Suu Kyi, who later presided over a genocide in Myanmar, and Leopoldo Lopez, who led a coup in Venezuela in 2002 and a wave of terroristic violence in 2014 that left dozens dead.

RIP Colin Powell, a war criminal who lied to the UN and to Congress about Saddam Hussein possessing weapons of mass destruction; a lie that cost the lives of over 1 million Iraqis.
Last month, at the UN, Joe Biden put Belarus number one on the list of states in desperate need of regime change.
“We are committed to support the long-suppressed democratic aspirations of the people of Belarus and we stand together to impose costs on the regime for its blatant disregard of international commitments,” the Biden administration wrote, as they announced new sanctions.
[Thread] FOIA’d documents show that the Pentagon worked closely with Hollywood, rewriting dozens of films and TV shows about the Afghan War to give them a more pro-war message, thus helping prolong the conflict.
E.G., in 'Lone Survivor' (2013), the Pentagon changed the central scene to delete parts where US soldiers argue that they should commit war crimes by killing Afghan kids & hiding their bodies.
This was a real event that actually happened. But it did not fit the wanted narrative.
The Pentagon often insists that they only work with film and TV companies to ensure the military is portrayed more accurately.
But internal documents prove that this is not true, and that they realize they are in the "reputation" management business.
"One of the most depraved front pages I’ve ever seen" - @Louis_Allday
The Daily Mail's own reporting makes clear that the U.S. killed three kids in the attack.
So they're essentially posing with the child survivors who lost their families.
And the military is being framed as a caring, compassionate force.
Unreal levels of propaganda.
On Afghanistan, I just published an investigation with @MintPressNews into the extraordinary costs of the project, including details of the enormous corruption among Afghan and US officials.
