Then, in August, the Senate passed a $1.1 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill (BIL)--which will pass the House when, well, "leftist" Democrats decide to pass it. Some estimates put it at $1.4T, some at $1.9T, but we'll take the smaller number.
The Senate is current assembling the "Manchinized" Build Back Better (BBB) Reconciliation bill, which will be between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. Again, let's take the smaller number.
We are talking about an investment in America of at least (1.9 + 1.1 + 1.5 =) $4.5 trillion.
And we're less than a year into President Biden's first term.
That's a lot of money. What does it look like historically?
Let's consider FDR's New Deal.
4/13
"The New Deal... cost $41.7 billion at the time, according to a 2015 study by economists Price Fishback and Valentina Kachanovskaya. That figure translates to $653 billion in 2009 dollars... "
But 2009 was more than a decade ago. Let's convert that to 2021 dollars. $1 in 2009 is worth $1.28 today. So $653 billion in 2009 (the cost of the New Deal) is $836 billion today.
$836 billion (the cost of the New Deal in today's dollars) is less than 1/5 of what Democrats have invested in America this year ($4.5 trillion).
But let's be more generous. Let's add in the cost of Eisenhower's Interstate Highway System (IHS).
7/13
The IHS cost an estimated $114 billion in 1956-1991 dollars (it took that long to complete the project), or $500 billion in 2008 dollars. Again, let's convert 2008 money to 2021 money...
So the total cost of the New Deal (ND) PLUS the Interstate Highway System (IHS) is $1.5 trillion in today's dollars.
Congressional Democrats and President Biden have invested $4.5 trillion in America. Since March.
That is three times as much as ND and IHS combined.
10/13
The original version of the BBB Reconciliation bill was estimated at $3.5 trillion. It's getting cut in order to get it enacted.
The media didn't bother to let you know what was in the $3.5 trillion version. They only told you about the price tag.
11/13
After refusing to say what was in the $3.5T BBB Reconciliation Bill, the media is now making it a point to tell us what's being dropped--AND STILL WON'T TELL US WHAT'S IN IT.
12/13
The media wants the narrative to be, "Democrats didn't deliver on this and this and that," and not: "Democrats got a TOTAL SHITLOAD done, and have THIS YEAR ALONE invested THREE TIMES as much in America as the New Deal and Interstate Highways COMBINED."
Show me where in the Bible there's a passage forbidding an employer to pay for employee health insurance that includes contraceptives.
Or show me where it describes the stone tablet that says, "Thou shalt not bake wedding cakes for same-sex couples."
1/5
Failing that, tell me where the Bible says life begins at conception. (Hint: It doesn't. But it does say, three times, that the soul enters the body when a newborn takes his or her first breath.)
I could have missed the passages I'm asking about, but I doubt it.
2/5
Because if those passages existed, the so-called "religious right" would have been screaming them at us for decades.
These are not "religious" stances. No one believes these things because of "religious conviction." They don't exist anywhere in Christian scripture.

Some good news: the number of daily new cases of COVID in the US has been dropping for the last seven weeks or so, with the 7-day average now at about 80,000 / day, down from about 160,000 / day at the end of August.
1/3
Daily deaths is also down from its peak in late September (it's a trailing indicator) from about 1900 / day to about 1500 / day.
2/3
The number of Active Cases (people currently infected) also seems to have peaked and should begin to fall.
Despite Republican efforts to make the pandemic worse, President Biden's program for fighting this deadly disease seems to be working.
We got an extension on the debt limit thanks to Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.
They threatened to vote for a filibuster carve-out for debt issues. Within hours, McConnell agreed to suspend the debt ceiling until December. And he arranged for 11 Republican votes to do it.
1/7
All you people who insist Manchin and Sinema will never, ever, no no not ever agree to tank the filibuster--they know when to threaten to do it. And they forced Traitor McTurtle himself to ignominiously cave.
Will it work again? I don't know. But I do know this.
2/7
Even Manchin and Sinema will do what needs to be done when the time comes.
Told'ja so.
The stakes are too high for any Democrat to let failure happen. Yes, it'll be slower and more painful full of more teenage angsty drama than any of us want. But it'll happen.
3/7
We watched Tommy for the first time in decades last night. It's an even better film than I remembered. The film says important things about the nature of enlightenment and the commercialization of religion--o wonder none of the critics understood it.
1/8
The performances are stunning. Except Jack Nicholson--they should have gotten someone for that part who could sing that melody. He butchered it. Tina Turner is absolutely terrifying. Elton John is delightful. The Who are brilliant, particularly Roger Daltrey and Keith Moon.
2/8
We're all agreed Eric Clapton is an asshole, but he plays an ethics-free grifter so maybe it was typecasting. Oliver Reed is absolutely odious.
And then there's Ann-Margaret. I don't have to say more. Wow.
The music holds up well too. And for fans of the original opera...
3/8
I hope y'all have learned not to listen to the punditiots and editorializing "reporters" who insist the Biden presidency has problems, or that Madam Speaker can't count votes.
Watch what happens, not who pontificates on what's about to happen.
During Obama's presidency, Rasmussen Polling created what they called a "Presidential approval index," which they calculated by taking the "strong approval" rating and subtracting the "strong disapproval" number. This was invariably a negative result. Haters gotta hate.
1/5
There are always more people who "strongly" disapprove of a president than who "strongly" approve. It is part of human nature for hate to be more of a motivator than happiness.
Hate > joy.
2/5
This method of generating an "approval" number didn't exist before President Obama. Rasmussen created it as a propaganda device to make President Obama look bad.
No one else--EVER--used this method for generating a "presidential approval index."
